That happened here when that franchise came to town. The donuts were good but nothing to go orgasmic over. Both stores have since closed.

The next big thing was the Popeye's franchise. That caused such a traffic jam that the cops had to come out and control traffic for a while. It's calmed down now. I give 'em three years.

It was like that around here, for several MONTHS, when a Pizza Hut opened in town (seriously, waiting times of over two hours for a CARRY OUT order). Sad thing is, their pizzas are probably actually the worst in town (at least since Papa Murphy's closed. ugh, nasty pizza). There are a couple of local restaurants that make a really EXCELLENT pizza, and they deliver, too. Pizza Hut doesn't even deliver to the entire town, and this town really isn't that big a place.

Hmm. I think we have one donut store in town, a little tiny hole in the wall place that's closed by noon every day. I've seen Krispy Kreme donuts in a couple of the convenience stores. I think they're brought in from Vegas. *shudder* I'd hate to see the reaction to an actual Krispy Kreme location opening here. It would be a madhouse. Probably the entire town would declare a holiday. Except for employees of the donut shop, of course. After all, someone has to provide deep-fried sugar-coated goodness, right?

*sigh* People, it's DONUTS. They're not going anywhere any time soon.
Actually, where I live, all the Krispy Kreme stores closed down. (I'm not sure when they opened [late '90s, maybe?], but I think they became victims of the low-carb craze.)

People tend to get like that around here when something new opens, especially a restaurant. In fact, I've heard we're supposed to get a Krispy Kreme sometime soon. The nearest one is about a two hour drive away, across a mountain pass, so the excitement should be great. I must say, I do love fresh bavarian creme chocolate covered donuts from Krispy Kreme. I used to live in an area that had a couple of them. Can't wait! But I won't be waiting in line for hours on opening day

    They're DONUTS!

A sighting from some of my friends and family back in my hometown.

So, my hometown recently got their first Krispy Kreme outlet. The following bits and pieces are basically what's happened in the first few days:

-Two guys queued for 53 HOURS to buy their Krispy Krack. The first guy got unlimited donuts for a year, the second was six months I believe.

-There was a promo for the first 1000 customers or so to get free donuts. It resulted in people queuing for THREE HOURS to get them.

-As a result of said promo, some guy decided that stealing said donuts was a good way to go. Luckily the police were nearby!

-Parking has become WORSE in that area. As a result, they've set up designated "no parking" zones and encouraged people to use the drive-thru. The council is getting a nice large boone though as they're patrolling the area.

*sigh* People, it's DONUTS. They're not going anywhere any time soon. And seriously, Gourmet Glaze donuts are MUCH better.

(A newspaper columnist hilariously commented though that flights interstate will be a bit quicker now because people aren't shoving Krispy Krack in the overhead storage)
