I'd like to know what my college was thinking when they painted some of the dorms. My dorm had beige hallways, light yellow rooms, and lime-green tiled bathrooms (yellow tiled showers though). What was odd, is that the lounges had wood paneling and white paint. It wouldn't surprise me that they had that crap on hand...and were trying to use it up

Oh, I know that rant. I could make a long thread on it. Just as an example: the idiots before me painted the house, presumable to sell it. I assume their real estate agent told them to paint everything white (something I don't agree with, but whatever).
I got ya beat. The people that painted my place (prior to purchase, same as your description), painted the tile in the bathroom. Plastic tile. No primer. Walls AND ceramic floor tiles too. ONLY the tile, though. No point in wasting paint on the part that needed to be repainted.

In one of the rooms, there was a large plant in a corner. It had paint drippings on it. The floor had a circular, paint bucket sized paint stain on the carpet. The formica countertop was matched-color paint over a wear line (because a section of formica countertop is soooo expensive).

Like you, though, it was a great price, a good neighborhood and the place has a lot of promise. You should see the yard size. Takes me forever to mow.

BTW, check out some Insuladd. I used it in a couple rooms and it works plus it adds a nice texture.
