A friend and I had a mutual off-day today, so we took a day trip to Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA to tour the battleship Massachusetts. He'd never been there, and I hadn't been there in several years, so it was a great day for both of us.
The museum is open from 9-5, and admission is $14 for adults. Now if you ask me, the price is EXTREMELY reasonable, considering that they rely on ticket sales to preserve and restore not only the battleship, but a destroyer, a submarine, and a Russian missile corvette. The one ticket gets you onto all the ships and you can stay all day (well, until 5PM).
Anyway, we spent about 4 hours touring the ships and had lunch aboard the battleship. Around 3:30 we were perusing the gift shop right before leaving, when two guys came up to the ticket counter (inside the shop).
SC: When do you close?
(Idiot. There was a BIG SIGN on the door listing the hours)
Clerk: 5PM
SC: Oh.....how long does it take to see everything?
Clerk: Well, to fully tour all the ships takes at least two and a half hours, and can take as long as four.
(It had taken us about 4 hours, including lunch).
SC: Oh...then can we get our tickets for half price?
Clerk: I'm sorry?
SC: Well, you said we only have half the time needed to see everything, so therefore we should only have to pay half price.
(How about getting to the museum earlier?)
Clerk: I'm sorry sir, but the prices are not negotiable. We do offer discounts for AAA members and active-duty military personnel, but that's it.
SC: But we aren't going to be able to see everything!
Clerk: Sir, you still have enough time to see a LOT. And we're open every day.
SC: Well if we pay full price, can we stay after 5PM?
Clerk: No, sir.
SC: But......!!!!!
Around this time I just up and walked out of the gift shop and told my friend I'd meet him at the car, as I was getting annoyed just listening to these guys.
