I'm boycotting Walmart, not becuase I think it'll make a difference, but beca s of all the stories employee mistreatment, that it makes me feel ill to even step inside the store. So far I've lasted a whole month without shopping there!!!!!!!

Okay, I feel weird now.... I *like* shopping there, and I only go about two or three times a year...

Interestingly, I just got finished watching a Penn and Teller Bullshit episode about "Walmart Haters." I, too, loathe Walmart, but it's mainly because it's just an all around crappy shopping experience.

According to the show, Walmart actually pays their employees more than minimum wage to start. They had several employees talking about how the benefits were good and the pay was more than fair.

I'm not saying it's all roses and rainbows, because honestly, I don't know. I'm just saying I've heard both sides. It's worth looking into to find the truth, if it matters to you.

I HAVE heard they extend benefits to gay families, which appeals to me. I think that's awesome.

Re: Walmart facts at Wake-Up Wal-Mart. They like to include their sources with their commentary.

Not every Walmart does the things listed, but corporate does nothing to curb activities they know are ongoing. The ensuing lawsuits cost less than guaranteeing their workers are treated properly.

When I worked at Walmart, I was paid minimum wage. There were no benefits, I don't know a single person that worked there that was full time other than managers and night crew. They shaved off my hours and shortened my pay (yes I was in on the lawsuit at one point).

I haven't set foot in there in years.

But really, what the heck is up with that girl. As if lack of funds was the only reason a card would be declined. More often than not, it's usually a glitch in the communication between the systems.

Most likely she or a family member have run cards to their limit and had them declined for that reason.

I'd have to go a long way to get to the closest Wal-Mart. There's a Target within walking distance, however.
I wasn't overly impressed with the one that was in my college town, though. The items they stocked were pretty chintzy.
