No, I don't mind sharing with all of you that your guesses are correct, I am LDS, or Mormon. The church does prohibit it's members from consuming coffee or tea as well as drugs and other caffinated beverages.

Gurndigarn, you are totally correct...it doesn't matter if a church is more or less conservative, it's all in how tolerant others are. Where I'm from, people are very intolerant of change and different religions other than mainstream Christianity. It's important to point out that the Mormon church's full name is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We are Christians. (sorry, side note!) It appears that the Restuarant attracts all of the people who hate other Christian denominations. If I ever have a run-in with this couple again at work, I am going to kick them out of the Restuarant. If they ever decide to be so blatently rude to me in a non-work environment, I think it's better to just turn the other cheek. I refuse to sink to their level.

adarhysenthe, it's nice to meet another Mormon on here! :handshake: Gurndigarn, are you LDS too?

Oh yeah, I'm a Diet Pepsi addict as well.

I was raised LDS in the South, and that was an adventure, let me tell you! I can't even count how many times I was asked if I had more than one mother -- I usually just looked at them like the dumbshits they were and said "Do you???"
I've had people tell me straight to my face that I was damned to hell because I belonged to a cult that isn't Christian and doesn't read the Bible (ftr, it isn't; they are; they do). One of my high school friends had a youth pastor after her to bring me to their church and when she told him I already belonged to one, the Mormon church, he said "Well that's okay; she can be saved, too." I still get mildly pissed off over that one, and that was 20 years ago!!

And now I'm constantly having to explain to people that those whackjobs in Colorado City are not Mormons. I haven't practiced in years, but to this day I have an extremely low tolerance for caffeine.

Not to start any debate, but please know that those people that act in the manner of that couple are not "conservative Christians".... they're not acting like Christians at all. Christians are certainly encouraged to share their beliefs, but not to force them on others or attack other's religions. I personally am a Christian and while I don't agree or believe in some of the things in the Mormon religion, I know that they are really nice people (and for some reason, they seem to have all the really hot guys!). I even had Mormons change my tire once when they were out evangelizing on my college campus and Triple A didn't show up..... I felt bad that they were dressed nicely and were on the ground changing my tire.... but then again, I had to listen to their speech about how I wasn't going to Heaven b/c I wasn't baptized in a Mormon church (I don't know if all Mormons believe that, but these two that were speaking to me did). They were still fairly nice, but a little pushy and "salesmen like".....

However, I also had a class with a guy who was Mormon who didn't push anything and I just asked him a bunch of questions and he was happy to answer, but not to push anything.... which is exactly the way "evangelizing" should be - answer questions, share your faith, but don't demand or force anyone to convert or throw out the "you're going to hell...." line.....

BTW, I thought the Southpark episode that I saw about Mormonism was kinda cool at the end where the kid said "yeah, the religion may be based on some crazy stuff, but we mostly teach that we should love each other and value family and to be kind and helpful to others and that's what really matters".... or something to that effect. who can argue with that?

I don't get why people have issues with what religion others are. I really don't.

Around here, where I live, it seems to be a huge deal about what church people belong to. I had one woman completely ignore my existance and the existance of my family when she found out my little guy had no idea who Satan is. She acts like we are evil and must be avoided at all costs. It makes me want to run right out and join her church! NOT!

I never understood that either... "God hates you, you're going to hell".... yeah that makes me want to run to a church and join...... it's the worst way to "evangelize" b/c it drives people away - not to - the church/ God/ religion. I've always been baffled by that logic.... or the people w/ signs outside of gay funerals or abortion clinics telling people that they're going to hell..... how does that make me WANT to know more about your faith? It would make me run the other way if that's how I had first learned about God...... it's just sad that people actually believe that method is effective in some way.......I've yet to meet someone who came to church b/c someone told them they were evil and going to hell.......

As far as I know, God doesn't really hate anyone. Doesn't the bible preach that God loves everyone?

As for those old..."people", they were completely out of line. Bet you 5 bucks they'd have complained if you sat there complaining about how old they are, and how old people suck...basically doing what they were doing.
Ugh. At least you're a better person than they are!

Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so!

When my soon-to-be roommate (whenever we get around to finding a place) and I were trading "get to know you" emails, I asked one question about religion - "Are you religious at all? I'm not. I don't care if you are as long as you don't care if I'm not." I don't care what she practices (well, assuming it doesn't involve chicken sacrifices in the living room or anything like that) as long as she doesn't try to convert me. And if I don't plan to live with you? Sacrifice away if that's your thing...just don't expect me to join you for church any time soon...

That's a yes and a no on that (LDS dude here, btw... there's a lot of us here). If I say more than that, it will be a very long theological post. Very theological.

Then they would launch into this pity filled tirade about how much she was missing out on.
I don't drink coffee not for any religious reasons just never really got into it. I prefer energy drinks, soda, tea etc etc. It's like not drinking coffee is a personal affront to them or something weird like that.

I don't drink coffee because I don't like it or anything vaguely coffee flavoured and I still get a lot of crap from people who can't believe I don't drink it (or beer, people freak out about that too). If someone tells me they don't drink coffee I don't ask why, I figure that's their own business. If they do tell me why I don't question it and certainly wouldn't give them crap about it.
Why can't people just respect that some people have different religions? I'm not in any way religious (far, far from it in fact) and I'm still offended you had to be treated like that! I figure people can be whatever religion they want as long as they don't go tryig to push it on me. That makes me cranky.

I am so sorry the wackos found you. I would say talking to your manager and giving him/her your interactions with these SC's would be a good idea. They should not be able to hassle you at work. As for the coffee conversation "Oh I don't drink coffee but it was brewed 5 minutes ago" is a lot less likely to bring out the whackos. I am exmo and understand how ignorant people are about you guys!
