  • Watch my kid

I was in the cage when this woman came to my co-workers window. Now, at my job kids can only be up there for non-gaming transactions. This woman was cashing out some chips and had her kid in her arms.

CW: Sorry your kid can't be up here with you.

SC: Well where the hell am I supposed to put him?

CW: I don't know ma'am but I can't cash you out with him here.

    SC: Will security watch him??

    CW: Maybe... I don't know.

We watched her walk over to the security podium and ask security to watch her kid! They told her no BUT here's the kicker they told her they'd page a slot person to watch her kid! I didn't realize it was the casino's jobs to babysit kids now!

So about two mins later a slot person was paged, watched her kid and she cashed out in my window.

This makes me really mad. It is not their job to watch a kid while the parent does some sort of gaming. The parent shouldn't be doing gaming at all if they're with a minor!

It reminds me of the time I saw a kid on their mom's lap while she was gambling but security didn't catch her in time.

I think it ruins the experience for some people.

No offense to anybody but I feel that kids shouldn't be in or around casinos. They're filled with drunk, smelly, smoking and pissed off people and kids shouldn't have to see that!

Kids have no business being in a casino.

      Somewhat OT here.

When I was really young (1 or 2ish?) my grandpa took me in a casino with him, and sat me on his lap while he played. He got realy irate, made a scene, and was allowed to continue playing with me by him. Of course, this was 20yrs ago, and I'm sure laws have changed/toughened since then.

      But...my gramps was a SC.

      Anyways, back OT. heh.
Things just get so crazy living life gets hard to do. I would gladly hit the road, get up and go if I knew, that someday it would bring me back to you.

I think it would be neat if there was a "family friendly" area of casinos where parents could gamble with their children nearby, maybe with a little play-place like at McDonalds or something. No smoking, no alcohol, closed after about 10 p.m. or so, waiters in cute costumes instead of cocktail outfits, etc., so that it was actually family friendly...if that were legal, I don't completely understand how the underage bit works with gambling.

But there's not, so, the rules say no kids. So...no kids. Get them out.

If they want a nice family vacation take the kids to disneyland. There are a few casinos like circus circus that cater to families but all in all I still see it as an adult world. Maybe even an escape for some. The old people get especially annoyed.

Kids are great but I think its a safety issue having them there also.

My problem is I'm worried if they do legalize it where children can be at the cage full time, what happens when the next time I'm counting out 20,000 and there is a screaming child? Its hard and distracting because they don't let us hand out straps, we have to count it all. Also think about that when asking for two hundred in ones.

In one casino they have a day care. Another has a huge play place for parents to leave their children. The casino I work at doesn't. They have a little crappy arcade that parents ditch their kids in.

I'd imagine that they'd bring in more families if they got something along the lines of a play place but I'm not sure thats what they want to cater to. I don't know but either way I'm just a sheep following the rules.

In this state casinos can be fined a quarter of a million dollars if they are caught letting minors in by the state gaming board. It doesn't matter if it is a child with a parent. Under 18, stay away. Not allowed. N.O.

I agree, kids and casinos are a big no-no. Casinos, and basically all of Las Vegas, are basically adult playgrounds where they don't HAVE to worry about kids.

Personally I never understood the attraction of gambling, but mebbe I just never got that big 'hit' to get me hooked (I never won anything of value).

Just because a person works there (and by there, I mean any place of business) doesn't make that person trustworthy. If I had kids, I wouldn't want someone I didn't know or trust watching them.

It depends on the casino and the parent. We have casinos near us and the best restaurants are in the casinos. One even has a movie theatre.

A kid hanging around the outskirts of the gaming area at 11 o'clock at night waiting for mom to blow the rent = bad.
Taking the family to one of the restaurants/buffets = not bad. But then my kids know where they can be and where they can't (they even know exactly where they can walk on the casino floor to get to the restaurant and where not to) and, more importantly, we know the rules and don't play when the kids come out to dinner with us.

Nah. It comes down to the personality. I play lots of games, but I find gambling games boring. The ones that are rigged towards the house are, well, rigged towards the house, and I understand odds enough to not want to play them. And poker is an excercise in boredom. You wait and wait for the hand that's worth playing much on... and then wait and wait for the next one, playing small bets here and there. Sure, you spend time watching others to see how they act and react... but so what? Give me a game where I actually think, and I'm much happier.

Backgammon is about the only dedicated gambling game that I think is even vaguely worthwhile, and I'm just as happy playing for points as for money. Oh, and I assume mahjong would be interesting too, but that's where I stop.

Like Chuck E Cheese, kids could win tickets there to trade for prizes. The only problem with that is SCs would be dumping their kids off there all day while they gamble in the adult parts of the casino. How many of them would try to leave their poor kids there around the clock. SCs will always find a way to ruin everything.

I've been to Atlantic City once. We were in the casino for maybe an hour or 2; I was not impressed. We blew about 20 bucks each, and then we went out and wandered the boardwalk for a while before dinner. It was so noisy and crowded, that's the last place I would want to bring my kid. Take them to restaurants, fine (assuming they can behave), but on the gaming floor? No.
