Does your medical insurance let you see a specialist without a referral? You really need to see a neurologist.

No they don't......but as I said, next time I see her (soon) I'm not putting up with anymore "No more caffeine, are you still drinking pop? That's why you're still getting them!" bullshit....I'm demanding to be put on something or refered to someone who will listen to me.

but my goodness..........Starbucks all over the monitor................that was the statement of the century...........someone finally said it!

      ROFLMAO...

Migraines can also be alergy related. My Dad used to get some really bad ones, until the doc tested him for alergies. He turned up with a citrus allergy. Once he laid off the morning OJ, the migraines went away.

Wagegoth - I work as a pharmacy technician and there are some pretty stringent dos and don'ts about filling temporary fills. It could be your usual pharmacy is willing to help you in an emergency because they know you, have your claims history on file, and are able to see a lack of abuse. A pharmacy that has not filled for you, or that has filled only a few times, will be less willing. They also are completely unable to just give one pill, even one, without a prescription so the transfer seems legit.

As far as the tablets/capsules issue, I don't know why they didn't give you the sprinkle caps. Some pharmacies have different policies on how to fill a prescription if they don't know the form the doctor intends (but the pharmacy transferring obviously told them the correct form.) Also, with Topamax the tablets are BY FAR the more common form given out. It took me a moment to remember the capsule form and only when you said sprinkle caps (since that isn't a very common form.) They knew the form so they should have told you outright that they only had one form available and asked, at that time, if this was acceptable (since it is the same strength tablets vs capsules can usually be determined by a patient preference.)

Edit: Oh, and Blas... your doctor is farkin' nuts! I used to be on Topamax and Maxalt for migraines and all my doctors (my PCP and my neurologist) said caffeine helps them. In fact, most OTC migraine pills have caffeine in them.

Bookstoreescapee-I've tried everything from tea to hot baths. I just can't seem to turn my brain off. The last time I got a real good night's sleep was when I took half a Vicoden to sooth the pain after cutting part of my finger off. I've heard of other people having the same problem before, your mind just goes in loops about things. I don't want to really go on meds for it, because I don't want to get hooked on any sort of sleeping medication, but I wonder if anyone knows any natural alternative solutions?

Heksubah, I agree with you pretty much.

I think my biggest issue was the first tech's attitude. She was telling me all this without checking my records or calling my pharmacy. She didn't know if I had a refill available. I might have just had a refill done, for all she knew, and then where would I be? I could have just walked out, waited for the migraine and taken the Imitrex, but I wanted to avoid the scenario.

And, as I said, she pulled two different bottles, one tablets, one sprinkle caps, and set them on the counter with the scrip for the pharmacist. So they obviously had some of the capsules in stock. I still don't understand why they didn't give me a partial fill, then give me the rest later. It was a big spiral of stupid from what I could see.

The second tech seemed to be on the ball. I think he felt stuck covering for the pharmacist. At this point, if they had just given me the partial fill, I would have been happy, and kept them in mind for the future. But, now, I don't trust them. And I won't get my prescriptions filled by someone I can't trust. I mean, either the pharmacist isn't careful or she just doesn't care. The tech is spouting off without checking records. And, frankly, watching they way they handled other customers, I worry that HIPAA is a joke to them.

As another pharmacy tech, I can think of one reason they didn't give you the partial fill. There are time limits on how long (maximum) it can take to complete one. If the medication is on backorder with their vendor, or the holiday is messing up the ordering schedule, they might not have been able to complete the prescription in time. It's also a lot harder (if not impossible, in some cases) to transfer a completion to your regular pharmacy.
I am surprised though, that the first tech didn't even ask you if you had an available refill. Not to mention that filling a scrip for tablets when it's supposed to be for capsules is sort of illegal without doctor's okay.
At my pharmacy, we get things rejected for spelling errors, I can't imagine a pharmacist letting something go with the wrong pills in the bottle.
