    You must pay full fare!

Not really an SC, but worth a mention. Being tall and well developed as a schoolgirl, I used to sometimes get sucky bus drivers who refused to believe that I was in school so I'd end up taking my coat off to show them my uniform and prove that I was entitled to a half fare. -.- Used to get on my nerves, especially when carrying a heavy book bag and when it was cold in winter.
I'm thankful for P/T that I always kept my Student ID in my wallet during this time.
Main problem with mean is the fact that I've been very obese (and still am) to various degrees since I was Age 4 or 5, and many times especially other things that require concession (many things) would always nag for identification. Even entry donations to things like swap-meets I always got questioned at, and despite the fact I've been accepting of my weight for most of my life now, it always was irritating when I would be told that I'm lying about my age to save a couple of dollars.. then again I guess they'd probably get it a lot, sadly. The worst times of course were at restaurants with a flat rate for a certain age.. and many times my parents would be forced to pay the extra rate due to staff no believing my actual age.

i've never been in a city that changes out money on a bus; either you have the fare price/ticket/pass or you're sol.

as for the doggie, i'd prefer taking his seat after he left as opposed to some of the people i've seen riding them. dogs are MUCH cleaner...and less offensive.
      look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

        You iz smoking!

Short, but sweet. XD This happened on a return journey from college. I was eating candy sticks on the bus when this happened.

Nosy old bat: Excuse me! You're not allowed to smoke on the bus! I'm going downstairs and telling the driver you're smoking, and then you'll have to pay the fine!
        Me: I'm eating candy sticks.
        Nosy old bat: ...

Honestly, they don't look that much like ciggies. -.-
Too bad you weren't eating some candy cigarettes.

By the time I got to college, those had already been banned by the PC Brigade.

We had to start paying full fare the moment we turned 13. By the time I was 15 they'd started asking for ID, which at the time didn't exist for secondary schools. Yup, this was the last time we saw anything less than £2.60 fare each way until we hit 80.

That's up to the bus driver, not you; and sorry, but I have already said that the bus drivers had no problems with it. Also, most people's kids tend to be messier than a small, clean dog; particularly those who were sitting on seats wearing nappies and nothing else. I really think you're being a bit naive if you assume that bus seats are pristine clean; believe me, I have seen people doing so many disgusting things on buses that a dog merely sitting on a seat is hardly going to make a dent.

I don't want to get into an out and out fight over this; just stating that the bus drivers were always fine about it, and if they are, then no-one else can really say anything. Maybe it's different over where you are; but this is how it was.
Well, you've been quite spoiled (I mean that it a joking way, not insulting). In North America, the only animals allowed on buses are seeing-eye dogs, and they *have* to lie on the floor. I agree with sarahj, I wouldn't want to sit on a seat where a dog had been, but that's mainly because I'm REALLY REALLY HORRIBLY allergic to dogs (as in, my throat closes up, etc.)

I agree, however, that if the driver didn't have a problem with it, it's all up in the air. Obviously you guys have slightly different rules than we do vive la différence!

Lace got away lightly, the bus company here charges for all dogs bar those for disabilities. (cost varies by route/length of journey)

I did say that at first I was charged, but later the bus drivers waived the fee cuz of the fact that my dog was well trained. Which is more than I could say regarding some of the kids on buses that I've seen; I've often been seriously tempted with dropping some out the window. XD

                    Oops, my bad.

Yer, some kids cam become out and out annoying.

Ouch. The local city buses around here (very good line) are only $0.90 each way or $2.50 for a day pass. The county buses (ok line, but has some really lousy subcontractors) and rail lines are $1.25 one way or $5.00 (up from $3.00) for a day pass.

Only time I've ever taken the bus (or even had a reason/opportunity to) was in Utah. Fares were, if I recall correctly, $2 for two hours (you got a ticket showing when you paid). You could also get a monthly (or 3-month?) pass for something closer to $35, I think.

Then the bus system set up an agreement with the University that allowed students displaying their IDs to ride free. ^__^ Best. Agreement. Ever.

Then they once again goofed it up by switching the following year to handing out parking passes for the University lots for free, and charging some $60-$80 for a yearly pass. Parking problems went through the roof there.

Now out here in CT, the University has its own bus line (renovated school buses) that runs circuits and takes stuents and spouses for free. Booyah.

utahs actually changed back to the old system (it's 1.75 for 2 hours), $55 for a monthly pass, college students ride free, and parking at the UofU (or any college) is a mess still with outrages fees.
Oh and UofU now also has it's own bus system... never used it, the few times I go up there I've been able to use TRAX to get around campus.

ah the good old days... come next month we will have yet another fare system in place... at least for commuter rail we will... most bizzare system ever, $2.50 to board the train and go to the first station, then 50cents per station after that... i'm hoping they have a discount for college students because that is really damn expensive and I may still have to settle for express buses when I go north of town.
