...AND SHOVE IN YOUR POST-PUMPKIN-PIE-DIGESTER-TUNNEL!
I don't believe I was a SC in this situation, though trust me, I wanted to be. Allow me to explain. I don't pre-order stuff. Sure, I probably could and at least then I'd pretty much ensure the game would be there right when I want it to be, but I don't. I guess I'm just lazy.
Anyway, right near the end of March, with my vacation coming up, I was able to get Crisis Core a little earlier than expected. Therefore, like a moron, I assumed I could get Mana Khemia early, too. Here's what happened...
Sucky Employee: "Hello, sir. Is there anything I can help you find?"
Me: "Actually, yes. I was interested in when two games came out. I'm just not sure if they're out yet. I'm interested in Mana Khemia and Persona 3 FES."
The clerk looked a little confused, but that's okay. These weren't two well known titles, so I kinda expected it. He handed me the distribution list or whatever and I confirmed just what I thought but had hoped against...Mana Khemia 4/1, Persona 3 FES 4/15.
Me: "Ah, I see...so they're not here yet then."
SE: "Well, actually, would you like to pre-order them?"
Me: "No, that's okay." *I proceed to start browsing*
SE: "Well, are you sure? I mean, I would hate to see you come in when they're here and there isn't a copy available."
Me: (Um...you didn't even know about the titles and I know these aren't going to "fly off the shelves") "...No, that's okay, really."
SE: "Well, I'm just saying...because, like, there was this one time, this guy really wanted Rainbow Six Vegas and he was all mad because it wasn't here and, well..."
At this point, I space out. I've already asserted TWICE that I'm not interested. I'm also a pretty patient person. Assuming these titles really were out, no biggie, I can either scope them out somewhere else or wait a bit. This guy would NOT. STOP. Worse: He's been there for over a year and is VERRRRRY SLOOOOW, especially when they have rushes. And why?
- He really is slow at the whole process...ringing up, finding the title(s), etc.
- He likes to make small talk that is not only awkward, but equally slow. I say awkward because it feels forced and for me at least, it makes me uncomfortable.
- He goes through THE SAME SPIEL regardless of whether there are 10 people waiting in line or 2. I've seen people leave the store if he's the only one ringing people up.
The guy's head is in the right place, but it's as if he has no clear judgement or something. I commend him for being persistent in a potential sale, but you'd think he'd learn a thing or two being there as long as he has been. I actually ended up buying MK elsewhere and may buy P3FES somewhere else as well. We'll see. Anybody else deal with awkward/overly pushy salespeople like this in game stores?
