Yeah, I've had similar problems with my dad, although it was more funny than offensive. He looks younger than his 45 years, I look older than my 19. And we're very close, we tend to hold hands and call each other "honey" and "dear". (Mind you, I call everyone "dear", but it's hard to tell that if you only see me once...)
Anyways, so a few years back I needed a new matress, so my dad and I went shopping at a nearby store. (It wasn't any big brand store, just discounted furniture, mainly mattresses, which worked fine for me. ) We spent about an hour or so looking around, it only took so long 'cause my dad was also looking for something we could put my sister's TV and videos in.
We finally decided on a mattress I liked that wasn't too expensive, and we told the nice lady at the desk which one we'd take, and we had our van with us now if we could find some way to get it on there?
Somewhere in the conversation the lady mentioned that she hoped "you and your wife like your new mattress." We were both stunned for a moment because this hadn't happened before (although it's happened a few times since) and then tried to politely explain that he was my dad and not laugh at the poor woman. She was very embarrassed, but polite about it. Dad and I still like to tell the story.
