  • you can't expect a six year old to...

    wait patiently for twenty minutes.

or so the spawner of said child claims.

my son and i were waiting at the doctor (patiently and quietly) for our appointment yesterday; in about fifteen minutes (we arrived a bit early), this woman comes in with her child, an active six year old (nothing abnormal about that) and checks in-all seems good and fine with the world, right?

    no.

the doctor took a new patient and is running a bit late (10-15 minutes), so the receptionists inform us that she's running behind and they're sorry about the inconvenience.

i'm good with this (son's a bit annoyed, but i tell him to deal with it), but the woman does a passive aggressive sc routine:

her: she's running late? i pulled him out of school for this appointment; you can't expect a six year old to wait patiently? what are you thinking? what am i supposed to do, he can't wait *lather, rinse repeat for about five minutes, all the while, her child is running around, coming in and out of the office while she does, yes, you guessed it: NOTHING*

receptionist: i'm sorry, but she's running late due to the new patient...

her: *more ranting about how a six year old cannot possibly wait around*

more time passses with her mumbling more passive agressive crap about the situation (annoying me greatly and showcasing her lackluster parenting skills), when the doctor is finished and finally calls her in.

funny thing to this is that another woman came out with her son, who was about six or seven and he was quiet and perfectly well behaved the entire time while she took care of checkout.

another funny thing: my mom had two hyperactive children that she was able to make mind, as i was with my son, so what's her excuse, exactly??
    look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

"That's fine ma'am. Please call us at your next convenience to reschedule your appointment. Have a nice day."

um <whine>but that would taaaakkkeee effort, and I don't want to discapline my child they might not be my bestest friend, and I might lose my status as "the cool mom"</whine>
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

One would think (of course, SCs never think) that if she's had a child for six years, then she should know by now that the pediatrician's office almost never runs on time. I can scarcely remember more than a mere handful of appointments for myself or my brothers where we were seen at the appointed time. Due mainly to walk-in sick call visits, but for various other reasons as well. This woman should be well aware of this.

But of course, if it makes sense, it's not allowed.

My pediatrician's office had a little game room with Ms. PacMan, Donkey Kong and another video game or 2. We loved waiting for the doctor.

Plus most pediatricians will have child-friendly magazines (Highlights, anyone? - I always read that at the dentist's office), and any smart parent will bring something to occupy their little precious.

I still read Highlights if I see it at a doctors office.

One of many reasons why CF folks like myself truly, truly appreciate parents like yourself who actually PARENT, and dislike the types as portrayed by the SC in this story.
