  • Instant asshole -- just add alcohol

I went out to one of my regular hangouts for beer and karaoke. I was sitting at the bar, enjoying a beer, waiting for my turn to sing, and just minding my own business. The DJ was playing a few tunes before starting the rotation of singers again, and as it was fading out, I heard some yelling going back and forth between the doorway and the area across the bar from me. The guy by the door was yelling something to a couple guys sitting across the bar from me, something about, "Come on outside then! You think you can knock me out, let's find out!" After that, the bartender told him to leave. Apparently he was running a tab, because I saw her hand him a piece of paper, and he handed her a credit card, yelling at her the entire time, and then flipping her the finger just before he stormed out. I was surprised he didn't try to run out on his tab, but I later found out he did try.

When the bartender came back around to bring me another beer, I asked her what had just happened. She said, "Nothing, just some drunk asshole. Every time he comes in here, he gets all drunk and acts like that!" I was going to ask her why they haven't banned him if he's always doing that, but the place was busy, and she had to run off to check on another customer.

I decided to get the side of the story from the guys he was arguing with, so I went over to the other bar and asked. The one guy told me he had been making racist remarks, going "Nr this, nr that," so he asked him nicely, "Could you cool it with that word? Some of my family and friends are black."

Apparently he replied back with something like, "Fuck you! I'm KKK! I hate nrs!" After that, the discussion devolved into threats and insults, and the idiot making the remarks was told to leave.

I still can't believe there are people like that in this day and age. Some people should stay the hell home, or not drink.

Somehow I don't think the addition of alcohol is required for the model of "instant asshole"™ that you were viewing.

Sadly I don't think we will ever see the end of racism. As long as people are different there will always be people who are ignorant and hateful of said differences.

Even if we all had the same skin color, ignorant assholes will find some reason to hate other people and make themselves feel superior. "You have green eyes! Only the BLUE-EYED are fit to rule! Greenie scum!"

And you can't get an idiot like that to see reason. It's like trying to smash down a concrete wall by slamming your head against it. It doesn't make a dent and leaves you with a ferocious headache.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

What we need is a Fix It Up Chappie to take care of things and bilk these nuts out of their life savings at the same time.

Sorry, my little girl's been quite fond of The Sneetches lately.

That's why I stay away from bars. Overpriced beer and then you get some assholes that can't handle liquor looking for trouble. Ain't worth it to me.

I'd have to say that the sort of thing I witnessed that night is extremely rare. I've actually seen a fight or two break out, but the number of times I've seen it I could probably count on one hand and have fingers left over.

Most of the drunk idiots I run into fall into the "annoying but harmless" category.

Alcohol often times gives people the excuse to be complete and utter fucktards, since they can just blame it on the booze and thus somehow avoid personal responsibility for being such a fucktard.

Doesn't work that way. Drinking is still a choice, and if you know you're going to be a mean drunk, either through drinking so much that you can't actually remember what you did or to just use it as an excuse and blame the booze, you're still perfectly sober when you decide to take that first drink.

Luckily, where there's booze there's bouncers.

yeah, kinda like an informal poll in my social issues class back at Utah State, the professor asked the question
"you see a black guy kissing a white guy, is your first response a) oh look, an inter-racial couple, b) oh look a gay couple, or c) what a cute couple, if your answer is much ruder than that, please chose the closest polite answer provided" The class was pretty much evenly split between all answers, which is kinda scary.
