But Cecile made me want to reach through the screen and strangle her with her plantinum blonde extensions and ram her pink lipgloss into her ear....*sigh*
I've always avoided that show but I'd watch that episode!

That's something that seriously gets my goat. In Beauty and the Geek, season 3, there was one girl who was (acted?) dense, and did NOT want to actually learn anything. All the other beauties were at least willing to learn something, and went in with open minds. But Cecile made me want to reach through the screen and strangle her with her plantinum blonde extensions and ram her pink lipgloss into her ear....*sigh*

Ah, yes, Dorothy Parker, the cure for malaise caused by being forced to endure society-influenced stupidity. Even her serious quotes are awesome.

    Razors pain you
    Rivers are damp
    Acids stain you
    And drugs cause cramp.
    Guns aren’t lawful
    Nooses give
    Gas smells awful
    You might as well live.

It is almost always in collections of her poetry - it was originally published in the New Yorker. But seriously, drop whatever it is you are doing and get to the library and check out her poetry and short stories. I don't think you'll regret it. I lurves me some Dorthy Parker. She could never be mistaken for dumb.
Wonderful, thank you so much! I'm always on the prowl for good things to read, particularly with such a great recommendation.

That's great! Learn something new every day. Where/when did she say it, do you recall? I'd love to check that out.

*watches the tumbleweed roll by unmolested*

Maybe the tumbleweed would like to go see a movie? Can't be a worse date than I've had before I got married, of course.

I actually met an ex of mine on a geek dating site... Awesome stuff. If anyone actually wants the site, I'll give it to them.
Why not? It can't be any worse than what I have now (i.e. nothing). PM me, if you like. I'll look into it.

I guess some women would rather get the dumb hot guys than the smart pretty decent looking guys. Sad. Goes for men too.

I'm sorry to have to say this, but it is not a "new fad." It is, in fact, a very, very old fad.

My era--think Farrah Fawcett. Before that, think about Laff-In, Marylin Monroe, the whole Betty Boop thing--it goes on to the beginning of civilization. Maybe even during the dark ages, who knows? Women have been pretending to be dumb for a long, long time.

But I have to say, if you are "pretending to be dumb" in order to go along with the ritual or the crowd, you aren't pretending any more.

So, slightly off topic... I was playing through Kingdom Hearts two, the week after the local Rocky Horror troupe did a video game theme show (the guy who plays Eddie came dressed as Cloud a la KH2/Advent Children) So, roomie and I had a discussion vaguely on precisely which version of Cloud said player was mimicking... and then, I went into the Sephiroth fight, roomie looks up, and utters, "Since when has he been evil?"
*brain go splodey* "Who? Sephiroth? The evil looking one with the wicked sword, and the God chorus chanting their lungs out?"
    "Yeah, him..."
"Always...? Well, except for about five minutes where he's on your team, but, most of FF7, he's evil. KH2, he's target practice. Advent Children? Short screen time, but EVIL!"
Evil or another victim of the Jenova Experiment?

I've had this debate way to many times with people and will shut up before I completely derail the thread.

I honestly don't see what the hell is so sexy/cool about people acting dumb. I could never date somebody that's dumb....again.

I just plain don't understand people who put on acts to get men or women. Though I also still wonder how out of all my friends the girl with the chip on her shoulder and scared the guys away due to being able to punch them out (aka me) got married first.

When I was in high school and even in my single years I never ever acted any different with a guy then I did with my friends. My girl friends would always try to get me to behave differently. They would try to get me to watch various popular tv shows and listen to music that made my ears bleed while harping that I needed to get a man. Usually ended in me pointing out that I was the one all the men were chasing. My friends always wound up with guys that originally were after me but then switched to them when they got it that I was not interested.

I had long ago decided that if a man wanted me he would have to deal with my obscene musical tastes, video game hobby, non-existent fashion sense, and ability to make him cry "Uncle".

I fully intend to impress this life lesson on my children and any others I might be able to.

Edited for truth and my own amusement.
