I certainly don't mind glasses - I wear them myself (slight myopia).

And I definitely appreciate a girl who is intelligent - or at least sensible - enough to talk to and get on with. It really does help if she can keep up with my end of the conversation. And if she knows what "myopia" means, so much the better.

I'm sure that *sometimes* it's an act, but more often I suspect it's a habitual attitude to life. Whether that attitude is born of actal stupidity or poor parenting (or some combination thereof), is often hard to tell.

I've even heard rumor there's a glasses fetish but who knows?
    Yes.

    Mmm, megane-girls.

Yeah, I had a genius roomate once (not the violent one) who was telling me that she wasn't stupid and to mind my own business one night when I told her that the cabbage she was pressure cooking was, in fact, an iceburg lettuce.

She was just about the dumbest person I think I've ever met. And not just because of that. No, that was just a symptom.

    <snip>

Picture it -- touring the basement of the biggest house in the US, a 250-room palace called Biltmore House. It's about ten miles from where I live, and it's a popular stop for school groups. I was walking behind one, which had trailed away into the two straggling girls walking in front of me.

    <snip>
Fun fact: Construction on Biltmore House began in 1890 and the house opened its doors Christmas Eve, 1895, more than thirty years after slavery ended in the United States.
Heh, I want to go to Biltmore house but i haven't had the chance yet. I live between Greensboro and Raleigh.

What I think is fun is stupid people with conviction -- the ones who don't know they're stupid. The ones who, in fact, think they know more than you do. Actually, one time I got to see one of these people in action next to your average stoned ditz.

Picture it -- touring the basement of the biggest house in the US, a 250-room palace called Biltmore House. It's about ten miles from where I live, and it's a popular stop for school groups. I was walking behind one, which had trailed away into the two straggling girls walking in front of me.

The first girl was a stupid person with conviction. She was outraged that her school had made her come here to this terrible place haunted by the sins of slavery and bondage. She felt so sorry for all the slaves who had been forced to build this mansion. It was wrong. She wouldn't have come her on her own. The exploitation!

    Blah...

    ...and blah...

...and blah some more. She was really working herself up into a tangent.

Fun fact: Construction on Biltmore House began in 1890 and the house opened its doors Christmas Eve, 1895, more than thirty years after slavery ended in the United States.

Funner fact: This girl's companion was one of the just plain stupid. Her response to all of this perceived social injustice?

A glassy gaze up at the rock archways soaring overhead, stumbling a little, and saying in a long, drawn out moan, "God, I am like so-o-o-o-o-o high right now..."

Another side of the coin, I once introduced myself to a young woman who had flatly said at one point that she was tired of stupid guys and wanted someone intelligent to have conversations with.

Apparently, being able to discuss Quantum Theory on any appreciable level was "too much".

I have to say, I absolutely do not believe this.
I don't believe it either, actually. I was just using it as an example of how long ago that train of thought started.

I wear glasses too! I've had more than my fair share of guys hitting on me because of it, and also a few backhanded compliments along the lines of 'you actually make glasses on a girl look pretty!'. Gee, thanks. I think it just has to do with personal preferences. I've even heard rumor there's a glasses fetish but who knows?

It was originally said by Dorothy Parker.
That's great! Learn something new every day. Where/when did she say it, do you recall? I'd love to check that out.

Hey, I say dude all the time, and I'm a total geek as well!

"Dude...these are isotopes." (brownie points if you've heard that comedy routine)(can not be exchanged for actual brownies)

    .

"Men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses." Glasses used to equate intelligence(and probably still do), hence the reason to appear less so for prospective suitors.

    .
I have to say, I absolutely do not believe this. When I started wearing glasses full time, the number of guys hitting on me went through the roof. Seriously. I'd get hit on occasionally before I needed to wear them full time. I started wearing them all day, and I was getting hit on, complemented, propositioned, flirted with, etc. DAILY. And no, I dont' think they make me look more attractive, either. Not if looking like Ghandi or John Lennon is sexy on a chick. I have always worn Windsor spectacles.

The husband says they make me look more approachable. Maybe so.

I think the problem can be summed up by a quote from a character* portrayed by an original Hollywood bombshell, Marilyn Monroe.

"Men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses."
It was originally said by Dorothy Parker.

And I disagree wholeheartedly, women in glasses are sexy.

Every time I run into a (deliberately) stupid person {meaning someone who's acting stupid for the benefit of attracting another}, I have to fight the urge to smack them around.

I'm sorry to have to be the one to break it to you, but for most of them it's not an act.
    It....it's NOT?!?!?!

Hang on, I have to cry.

    Okay, I'm done.

I can act like a complete and total ditz (Generally known as my Spaz Attacks). But somehow I always let slip something that catches someone unawares.

    It's fun.

Well, no. It's not the new sexy thing. It's the old sexy thing. It's the VERY old sexy thing.

And sadly, that's no act. Any woman who feels like she has to act dumb probably really is that dumb.

But it's okay, she'll get exactly what she deserves...a man who wants absolutely no challenge or mental stimulation from her, who goes after stupid women because it's the only way he can himself feel superior. In other words, an dumb loser.

So it all works out. Smart men dont' go for these girls.
it was true even back in my HS days 30 years ago. the "cheerleader" dumb as rocks, but pretty stereotype (I emphasis STEREOTYPE) ya know the one ALL the boys wanted but the dumb as "rocks" football type got. but then sometimes the stereotype is true. like poles sometimes do attract.

I at least wanted someone who may not be booksmart but had "street" smarts and good common sense. not some dumb trophey GF. and yes I dated the school "bookworm" in HS not to get my homeowrk done but I did find her an interesting person once you got to know her. she did have flaws that ultimetly led to our breakup a few years down the road and us going to different colleges did have an effect.
