Lupo, I'm in the same boat you are. What part of Houston are you in? I'm in the Southwest Area. We don't seem to be hit too hard but damn, people are just turning into asshats! It's not like it's going to kill people to calm down and wait until the brunt of the meanness is over!
EQ! I'm in the SW area, too!! Fondren/Braeswood-ish area! We got off lucky, and I know that. But seriously, you're right. Asshattery abounds!! I don't know what's WRONG with people.

Lupo - Thank you for posting the insults you chose to use. People have used certain curse words as insults so often that they don't have any power any more. Showing others that variety is the spice of life is fantastic.
First off, thanks Emrld! As it stands I have electricity, running water (the pressure could be better) and the METRO system is getting back to normal, so I think I'm set. But bless you for the offer, and for giving me a smidgen bit more faith in human compassion.

LOL Oh, I'm told that I'm a joy to watch when I'm angry and arguing with someone because I tend to get very verbose and creative with my insults. In fact, my best friend in Midland has demanded that everytime I insult someone, I call and tell her so she can write it down and remember it if it's truly interesting...

sliceanddice: Regarding charity, I don't usually have a lot of money to donate. Broke ass college student, that's me! As it is, I don't know when I'll be able to go to work again, so I'm stressing a little about my financial situation, but hey, take it as it comes, right?

But you're right about donating time to help clean up, etc. I've offered my apartment to coworkers and friends who don't have power/water and whatnot, so if they want to crash for a few hours and have a hot shower/AC/internet connection they're welcome. I'm Italian, so I'd definitely feed them, too. I also have space for 2-3 people to sleep if they need to. Thing is, the Christian lady forgot that charity begins at home. I don't have a lot of time or money with my schedule, but I help where I can. I don't see how that's so hard for others to grasp. And I'm off the soapbox now. Sorry for the mini rant.

Come to think of it, some day we're supposed to have a massive earthquake that's supposed to be 8 on the Richter Scale. If THIS is what I can expect afterward I'm pretty sure I'm gonna snap like a twig.

heh, where I am is expecting an earthquake that would seriously destroy the Salt lake valley...

I used to live right on the fault line, so I was comfortable that I'd probably die in the first shock...

Now that I've moved, I have to live with the stupid survivors... maybe I should move back to the east side of the valley...

yes you should... that way I wouldn't the the only cser killed by the earthquake

that and the east side would be so much more interesting if there were more people like you over here...

Wow that's a massive amount of suckitude.

Good to know you're ok though! All Ike brought me was fall, though I'm glad for that.

                Thanks!

Ike brought fall here, a bit, too. I'm just hoping it STAYS that way. The last several days has brought BEAUTIFUL weather. Gods willing, it stays that way, and no more 98 degree weather with 99% humidity.

And if that's too much to ask, at the very least, let the weather cool sufficiently by Thanksgiving, so I don't die in my garb at Renn Faire...

Oh, Lupo.....so sorry you had to deal with so much suck. But dangit, you made me laugh. Now, I have a pretty good vocabulary, but you had me beat. Gutterwench....heehee....

Here's sending the good vibes your way that things get back to normal(ish) soon.

And please tell Texas to stop sending Kentucky hurricanes. We seriously don't know how to deal with them (or any other weather extremes we experience on a more regular basis).
I am no longer of capable of the emotion you humans call “compassion”. Though I can feign it in exchange for an hourly wage. (Gravekeeper)

Why thank you, thank you very much. Gutterwench IS the official word of the week, apparently. Even my grandma used it yesterday when I was on the phone with her.

As for not knowing how to deal with weather extremes...darling I grew up in the DESERT. Surrounded by mountains. I've never dealt with anything worse than heavy winds on occasion. The mountains block out most everything, and it only rains during a specific time of year. This was my first hurricane. I was SO out of my depth, I ran away. And am damn proud to admit it. I was a friends pet refugee for about a week. It was fun times.

I'd tell the self-righteous "christian" DW:

If I was busy bailing out every self-important christian person in need, I'd be in a worse financial situation than you are. There's a fine line between religious devotion and self-preservation. Unfortunately you can't find it. And last time I checked, solicitation isn't allowed here. Leave.

I'm guessing you're referring to the one in/near Plantersville. Are you going to be working or just visiting? We're planning on a day trip on Nov 15, for the Highland Fling weekend. The weekend after that, we're supposed to be down the road in Magnolia at the Liendo Plantation for their Civil War weekend. Don't know if we'll have the cannon along or not, though.
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

Actually, we're thinking of hitting two or three during the month of November. Plantersville is a maybe, but we're definitely going to Texas Renn Fest, just because it's become a tradition. That and I really really like Cantiga and Crannog and I Madrigali. I go for a lot of the music. Never worked a fair before, never really wanted to. I'm too much of a space cadet at those things, and far too easily distracted by shiny things...

Gutterwench is my new favorite insult.
That "Christian" lady pisses me off. I'm a Christian and would never say that! The Christian thing would've been to be thankful that you're still alive and be happy that other people aren't as bad off as you. Bah, stupid woman. She's probably one of those "beat you with a Bible till you bah-lee-vah!" types.
I met one person that did that attitude to me, and even held out a bible at me, so I hissed at it! needless to say, she fled.
Crono: sounds like the machine update became a clusterf*ck..
pedersen: No. A clusterf*ck involves at least one pleasurable thing (the orgasm at the end).

Interesting fact: In many places, the Law recognizes that men are inherently stronger, larger and more intimidating than women. Any use of violence by a man against a woman is therefore considered to be deadly force, allowing the woman to use literally any available means of self defense, without the usual considerations of not bringing a knife to a fistfight that are applied to men VS men. Simply the threat of physical violence by a man against a woman has often been held, in court, to be a threat of deadly force.

Translation: Man threatens/assaults/batters woman at his own risk.
