Well, good luck with Netflix, Smiley. I had Netflix and dropped them for Blockbuster. At first Netflix was great, 2 day turn time to get a new movie after returning the old one. Then it went to 3 days. Then 4 days. Until finally it was taking 7 - 10 BUSINESS days for each new movie to come back. But only 1 day for them to record the return of the old movie. Why pay to have 3 out at one time when I was only getting 6 movies a month because of their piss poor warehouse?
Blockbuster has been awesome for me so far. Oh, and the reason Blockbuster sent you new movies is probably that even though you cancelled, you paid your monthly fee so you still have an active account until that month is up.

Did you call them about it? It could have been a problem with your address. That happened with me, since my zip code wasn't right. They corrected it and gave me a few extra rentals."For the love of all that is holy and 4 things that aren’t but feel pretty good anyway" ~ Gravekeeper

Quoth magician5 View PostMaybe you don't have 'em in your area, but Redbox is awesome - just $1/night, and it's a machine not a minimum-wage incompetent. Why? There are lots of stories on here about "minimum-wage incompetents." They're usually referred to as "idiot co-workers."Quoth tollbaby View PostInteresting choice of words, considering which site you're posting them on

yeah... what he said... I work with quite a few "above minimum wage incompetents".... my entire job is looking for mistakes made by coworkers... so yes I agree with Ironclad that it is an appropriate choice of wordsQuoth Ironclad Alibi View PostWhy? One thing that I like about Netflix is the option of streaming movies online. I have my laptop connected to my 37 inch LCD TV in my living room with a Wi-fi card built-in. I use it to stream movies in my living room. Kinda like having another "On Demand" option on my TV but with a better variety of free movies.

nitpick/ there are legal torrent sites, I believe Vongo is one of them, you pay a monthly fee and you are allowed to download movies and the software automatically deletes them after a week... much like an unlimited plan at a Blockbuster store except with downloads /endnitpickQuoth Rapscallion View PostEver so slightly illegal and not condoned by the site etc.
Rapscallion
the legit sites though have a really crappy selection, so yeah... most torrents people would actually use are slightly illegal.

I've never had issues with Blockbusters but I also take a good look at my queue - some I returned were not recorded as such so I report them.
When I did exchanges in the store (I stopped when they doubled the price) it was usually off of my queue by the time I got home.

Hubby and I discontinued Netflix when we got tired of binging on so many movies. Eheheh.... We originally got it when Baby was born, because we knew we probably wouldn't be lucky enough to take her to movie theaters without her throwing a fit. For the most part, we were quite happy. Only problems we had were one disk that was quite scratched up (it played just well enough that we didn't bother requesting and waiting for a replacement), and one other disk that came out of order.
With the out of order problem, it was clearly mis-packaging. We'd queued up the two Lodoss anime series (the OVA and the TV series), and they sent the first disk of the OVA (correct) followed by the first disk of the TV series (incorrect). So we had to wait for the rest of the OVA to arrive, watch that, then start watching the TV series.
I've very few gripes about Blockbuster, but then I don't rent from them regularly and have not used their online service. Our in-store rentals are, for the most part, done with gift cards obtained through the Pampers Points system (earning points for buying diapers and wipes, then redeeming them for Blockbuster gift cards, among other things). A friend and I once rented a GameCube game from them to try out, and we've never had problems with them not registering the return. Blockbuster was also the place where I managed to obtain my Wii, as they actually had one still on the shelf despite the delivery being over a week old. (Hubby and I figure that no one else expected that Blockbuster would sell Wiis.)
Newegg.com is also a great resource for this. A number of my computer's parts came from there, and when the rest die, their replacements will also come from there.Quoth Evil Queen View PostYa know, it's cheaper to home build a computer then it is to buy one. Particularly if it's an EMachine since you have to upgrade everything anyways.

make that 3
Yup, blockbuster is now up to 3 movies on my card... damnit, I knew when I turned in my last movie I should have gone SC and walked up to the counter to turn it in and demand written proof that they had it back in their system, whether or not it's possible... I'm sorry, if you're so
bad at your job that you lose a customer over fraudelent lost movie charges you deserve to have someone go SC on you
