Because they have the deepest pockets.

Betcha they actually make some money off this, either through settlement or a bunch of mouth-breathers on the jury award them money.

Ya know, it's a BIG internet out there. How would they even "stumble" across these pictures? Maybe there's some kinda tracking for the cell phone? Either way it smells a little "scamey" to me.
wouldn't lube work better in a f***ing machine?

I read that they're suing the McDonald's because the couple had been promised by the McDonald's manager that the phone would be kept in a secure place until they could retrieve it.

They assume, then, that a McDonald's employee must have released the pictures.
They only found out about the photos being published on the internet, because the person who posted the pics also posted the couple's personal info and they started getting offensive phone calls and text messages.

The suit is so high because they had to move due to their address also being part of the personal info that was posted.

Hmm. Well, with the info from Ree's update, it makes more sense then to sue McDonald's, if they were promised that the phone would be kept in a secure place and then the pics leaked anyway. And with the personal info included. Ouch.

Though, not to remove the blame completely from the couple, I don't think a cell phone is something you want to keep nudie pics on, personally. Unless you can password lock them or something.

Agree with you there. Something that can be lost easily and is typically carried with you everywhere you go is not exactly the epitome of security when it comes to material of a.. um.. 'sensitive nature'.

Well, their suit will have to prove that the manager failed to protect the phone once he/she had it. Who knows who or how many people accessed the phone before it reached managerial hands. Well, I should say I'm *hoping* the suit has to prove the above.

I wonder if the phone was found by staff or handed in? If the former, good case. If the latter, it was probably them mucking about with it before handing it in. "Whoah, dude, look what I see! I'm gonna take a copy and upload that later!"

Re Ree's update - it's funny how the facts get in the way of a good story. Stella had a good case too, but all anyone hears is "sued Mcdonalds because her coffee was hot".

Here's a linkhttp://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081123/...s_mcdonald_s_7 Apparently they're suing McDonald's corporation, the franchise owner, and the manager to the tune of US $3 million.

reminds me of all the 'ladies' who decided to show all for girls gone wild, then later attempted to sue the people involved.

I can't see how just finding a phone could give anyone access to their personal information like adress etc. The'd perhaps have to give their names to the manager so they could come and get the phone but their adress? Why? Was he shipping it back to them? Unlikely.

Further I find it hard to belive that anyone who finds a mobile phone would hand it in at all, why not just keep it and change the sim card. Maybe that's just being cynical but we all know what site this is.

Sounds fishy to me to be honest and even if the phone was handed in, anyone could have stolen the pictures first. Did the employees even have access to a computer at McDonalds?

If it is true it's a sucky thing to happen but there are a lot of questions unanswered by the story.

Was the phone accidentally left at McDonalds, or was it left deliberately - after a copy of the pictures and info was given to an accomplice, to be sure it would get into "the wild" to frame the Arches as setup for the lawsuit?
