  • I think I sucked (long)

Today was the first day I have ever gotten my nails done. Now this sounds like meh, its just your nails but I am this HUGE anti-social, stuck in my ways, doesn't like change, I can get ready in ten mins, low maintence girl. So, for me it was a huge deal.

Anyway, I was basically having a panic attack while the guy was doing my nails. I didn't know what to expect and it HURT like hell. He was maiming my cuticles. Which I thought was what was supposed to be going on. He made all of my fingers bleed. And after he sanded the top of my nails he put some chemical on them that burned too.

Anyway, when he was polishing them I started to panic because they were too long but I was scared to speak up because he was so far along in his work. I felt horrible. I asked him if I could show the friend (who talked me into getting them done).

Me: Hey, whatcha think of these? I'm kind of freaking cuz I think they are too long and I think its too late....

I am a huge stresser, I worry about everything and I felt bad and I hope I didn't offend him, I was seriously close to tears and I have a fear of getting touched. So thats also why it was such a big deal. I have a huge phobia. So, I am a bag full of crazy.

Well, the nail guy sitting next to the woman who was doing my friend's nails was like:
    What's the problem??

I got embarassed and stammered that there was no problem. I didn't want to get anybody into trouble because the guy wasn't doing anything wrong, I was the one too afraid to speak up. I don't know why...

NG (Nail guy): Here, I can fix it.

Me: No.. It's okay... I just its... They're too long and I was worried because he seemed almost done.. I'm really sorry. (I felt like doing this )

I've never been so embarassed. NG followed me back to where I was getting worked on and talked to the guy working on me--in their foreign language. So, I have no idea what was said but I felt like a fool. The guy made them shorter but I kept apologizing and felt sooo stupid.

After that the maiming seemed to have gotten worse. I think I made him mad. Later I found out that the woman working on my friend was infact the head honcho. I guarantee I will never go back. I made a scene, was in pain when I shouldn't have and I don't think they'd want me back....

The end result? My nails look like they have a buzz cut lol Flat on top and all sharp on the sides. Did I suck? I tipped him five dollars too.

AFAIK they are NEVER supposed to maim your cuticles till they bleed! Serious health risk and it's NOT supposed to hurt! The whole point of getting your nails done is so that you have a "I'm a pretty pretty princess" day, not a "OMIGOD I'll tell you anything, just stop!!!"

QFT. I do my own fake nails; there is *never* a reason for your fingers to bleed when getting fake nails put on unless *someone* is being stupid, or clumsy, or both. (Yeah, I've hurt myself doing it, but I've been both.)

If someone's hurting you in that situation, especially once they see you're bleeding, *you* should not be the one apologizing. That jerk who worked on you needs to be handed his head. The 'head honcho' should have had someone else work on you immediately, and apologized his ass off.

Besides all the cuticle maiming (Which, ow!... and the chemical that burned was catalyst...and its not SUPPOSED to burn. It burned because he ripped your cuticles apart) you were speaking to your friend, NOT the head honcho guy. I would have had to ask him to please excuse himself from my conversation.

I hope your fingers dont hurt too bad today... the next day my fingers are usually sore from all the filing.

No suck anywhere. If you want your nails to be on the shorter side, there's nothing wrong with speaking up and asking that.

If anything, he was sucky for acting like a jerkwad when you pointed out something you didn't like. And on that note, he sounds like a terrible nail stylist. It's never supposed to hurt, and you're never supposed to bleed. I've only had my nails done a few times as a treat to myself (I'm a biter), and every time the people have been sweet and tried their best to make me feel good.

Find someone else, and please don't let this experience ruin it for you. I'm sorry your first one was so terrible, it's not all like that.

getting your nails done is NOT supposed to hurt!

that guy was hurting you! you had EVERY right to speak up!

Dont be afraid to speak up, it does not make you a sucky customer at all. The nail techniction is not a mind reader, if you want them shorter you tell them straight away they do hundreds of sets of nails in a week.

When you get them done (and your right NEVER EVER go back to that salon) as soon as you sit down say "Im a very active/busy person I want them fairly short please"
If they are still too long speak up! Your nail tech wants you to be happy with your nails so that you will come back.
If ANYONE ever hurts you for heavens sake please speak up. You don't have to be embarressed, you dont have to yell. Just say in a regular voice "I would like it shorter/thinner/longer/whatever."

this goes for your hairdresser, anything done in a salon, anything custom. You have the right to be happy with your service. People in those businesses rely on repeat customers so if they are any kind of decent they will want your nails/haircut/eyebrows done exactly as you want them.

You did not suck. The only thing you did wrong was not speaking up.

I have very good natural nails (extremely high protein diet) but i have had extensions occasionaly.

You should always get something your'e comfortable with and don't be afraid to ask, it might be best to say at the start what you want, at least that way it's established straight off. As for the bleeding, no way, if that happens again, request a different person, it should Not hurt.

I request extra-long rounded tip nails with nail art and gems....but i have this thing about my nails being fancy, to the point that i've self-taught myself handpainted nail art

I'd echo the statements of not going back. Also, to make yourself feel better, I'd suggest seeking out a new salon and booking in to get your nails done and a hand massage. There are few things as relaxing as a hand massage.

I'm going to jump in here and agree with the other responses. I had my finger nails done for the first time last summer (no polish though, I am a guy). It didn't hurt, and I haven't seen anyone else getting their nails done acting like it hurts. I have also been getting pedicures for the last year. Those don't hurt either, just the opposite. My feet feel sooo good afterwards.

I get my nails done maybe twice a year. I have a hard time sitting through it as well. I am very ticklish so I don't like others touching me that much. It has never hurt. I always make sure that they right away that I am ticklish and they always ask me if something is bothering me or if I need a break because the idea is I go there to enjoy myself and to make me happy.

So I have my nails done a few times...love my Mani and pedi days!!

Please do not feel any need to NOT speak up. Most of the people are really nice, and it seriously takes them the whole of 5mins to fix these things up. I'm suprised they didn't ask if they were ok.

I have had the odd slight bleed from my girl trimming my cuticles too short. But its like a dab and she apologised profusely and it happened the first time. It should only be a small graze if anything perhaps on ONE finger not the maiming you have described.

I agree that's why it probably stung when they put the cleaser (which is often Acetone to remove anything before they apply the polish).

You were not sucky at all. I mean I have told the girl as she was finishing she used the wrong colour and they redid my nails so its not a problem...they are there to service.
every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.... for every person I can stand being around there is and eqaul and opposite idiot....... -_- damn stupid people

At most places, they are supposed to ask you how long/short you want them, and for a visual example, since they'll put the entire fake nail on you and they should take the clippers and slide them up and down your nail until you show them exactly the length you want.

I just thought thats where the saying with beauty comes pain. I thought I was being a huge baby and just bit my tongue everytime he sawed at my cuticles. I admit it--I should have spoken up but I am really shy (go figure I work with ppl at my job!) and I am basically a hermit and the worst kind of panic- anti-social.

But yes, I should have spoken up. The guy had no idea what I wanted--neither did I. But I managed to file them to where I want them but the experience wasn't as fun or soothing as my friend described.

Granted they look cool but I don't think I will be doing it again. Thirty-five dollars for torture. I guess it was my fault for going to one of those nail places inside of walmart. But my friend was satisfied so maybe I just got a new guy or maybe he was in a hurry for his break? Or just had a bad day. Dunno but--never again lol

The worst acrylics I ever got were at a Wal-Mart (I needed a quick fill).

Honestly, don't turn yourself off to getting your nails done just because of that ass. I suggest you find a salon where you really feel comfortable (and if that means they're all English-speaking citizens, don't feel guilty, because I'm certainly not comfortable if I'm having my nails done by someone who may or may not be gossipping about my horrible dry skin) and start with manicures and pedicures - both are very low-maintenance, don't need filling every two weeks, and feel DAMN good if done properly.

I am so sorry you had such an awful experience, bb. Don't feel guilty for speaking up.
