First of all: You shouldn't have been bleeding.

Second: If you want more control over your nail length, don't let them put tips or anything on you, you just want acrylic over your natural nail. Try the description: sport length, rounded tips.

*I* would NOT have tipped him. Sure, you might be a little sore from getting your nails done the first time, but you should not have been in the level of pain you described.

Don't be afraid to communicate with them. My first nail experience was HORRID (aside from bleeding.....wasn't doing that). Nails were like big, square claws and CAKED with glue on the sides and underneath. I had told the girl I wanted French tips, thinking that she would put on acrylic and paint the tips white. Nope, she put on a ton of plastic (actually thought it might look better til she failed to listen to me tell her how short I wanted them THREE times). It was so trashy. I went home and had to break out my tool box just to chip the glue out from underneath, it was solid and smooth to my fingertip, little backfilled triangles of glue. And I filed most of it off. Never went back. This wasn't from a gal that I didn't communicate with either, she just didn't listen. How do you turn "sport length, round tip" into "OMG I live in a trailer park and I just spent my kids' food money on my nails"?

I have a wonderful nail lady now. Probably have her do my hair, too, if I ever do anything to my hair.

And around here it only costs $20 for a fill, though I hear stories from hoity toity types I deal with on the East Coast that pay $100 for a fill.....jesus.

I would call the owner and tell him everything you went through. If he doesn't respond nicely, never go back and tell all your friends about how you were treated. If he seems nice and wants to make amends, don't go back, but don't complain to your friends.

My sister did my nails when she was in beauty school. They drove me nuts, but it never hurt.

      1. Cuticles should NOT be cut. They are living tissue. Cutting them sets you up for bleeding and an infection.

      2. The reason your nails should be soaked is for the cuticles to be softened so that they can be pushed back.

      3. If you're getting acrylics or fake nails of any kind, the top of the nail is usually filed just enough to roughen the texture so the nails or glue or acrylic adhere better. They should NOT be filed so much that anything burns.

      4. They should have been designed to fit your lifestyle, not what was easiest for the manicurist.

      5. Never tip if you don't get what you want and the manicurist won't properly correct the problems.

      6. Don't pay if you don't get what you want and the management won't help you.

      7. You don't need to yell, but make it clear to the management that you not only won't you be back, but you will be telling everyone you know about the poor treatment you received.

      8. After the Seinfeld episode, I don't think I'll ever go to a nail shop.
