I took my youngest son to see it and we had to pay an extra 2.00 a dollar each for the glasses. And it was well worth it, I had taken my oldest son to Spy Kids 3D when it came out and the glasses were the cardboard, 1 red lens, 1 blue lens, your lucky if they make it to the end of the film. But the new ones were like regular sunglasses with black lenses and I think they were better, not only better made but made the 3D look better. What I did think was cheap was the theater had boxes outside each 3D screening where you could donate your glasses back to them. Ummm, I paid for them I'm keeping them.

At our theatre the extra service charge is attached to all digital 3d movies; has nothing to do with the glasses. Even if you brought your own, you'd still have to pay the extra $$. Secretly I think it's to cover the service tech bills because the projectors so frequently shit the bed.

I had that problem with the afore-mentioned cheap cardboard glasses. The new ones are so much better, I never had to refocus.

I hate 3D movies with a passion. The fact my left eye is completely useless due to an optical nerve birth defect may have a lot to do with that.

I had a similar condition at birth. I had surgery to repair the damage, but it left me with drastically reduced vision in my left eye (if I lost my right eye I would be legally blind) and an inability to see ANYTHING in 3D. Movies, TV shows, those darned Magic Eye things, I can't see any of it.

Have either of you seen any of those "wiggly" gifs? That's one of the few 3d effects that sometimes works for those with nonbinocular vision.

There was only, like, 1 instance of Gimmick in Monsters vs Aliens.

There were a few others, 3D gimmicks get old fast, for example some of the takes in Susan's fall scene are 3D gimmicky, it seems Coraline is the only "3D mature" movie out there so far.

It depends on how much extra you pay for the function, true a couple of bucks or pounds difference is probably to cover the higher costs of the 3D movie to the theater rather than the glasses.... but in my country movies normally cost around $9 an addult, and they're charging $20 an addult for 3D movies.. I have goddamed earned those glasses, and if I want to keep them to play with polarization, I will!

Gotta question...what are you supposed to see there? 'Cause if you're supposed to see wiggly-to-the-point-of-seizure-inducing...then yeah, I see it. If it's supposed to look 3D, then no?

Not enough.... I went to see Superman last year and came out of that theatre with a migraine. So did The Boy. I have severe astigmatism in my left eye and some trouble refocusing at speed to begin with, while The Boy has had a corneal transplant and cataract surgery in his right eye due to a genetic condition (keratocornis). The old red/blue glasses make things blurry but not actually too bad for us, but those Polaroid ones just about killed us!

(For me, too, the laser light show at the beginning of the movie didn't help one bit. Shut up, IMAX, nobody has cared about laser light shows since 1986...)

One 3D movie i cannot speak high enough of it 'I lost my M in Vegas" at M&M world (in vegas). A lotta fun for both me and the GF, and best of all its FREE!

Our customers do get to keep the glasses if they wish, but we are instructed to tell them there will be no reduction if they bring their glasses back next time. Plus the glasses are individually wrapped, so mo danger of contamination from previous users.

Glasses come in boxes supplied by the distributor of each film. I don't know who pays for them though.

The cost of a new screen, server and digital projector are significant, add to that it uses a xenon bulb twice as powerful as a 35mm projector, and it requires an engineer with a a laptop to change and align the bulb (unlike 35mm projectors which we projectionist can do). So that is where the extra £2/$2 is going.

Went and saw Monsters v. Aliens in 3d as well. Didn't realize it at the time, but the prices were $12.50 per ticket.

Never. happening. again.

The movie was good, but not worth $25 for two tickets. I usually pay $4 for matinee tickets. Biggest ripoff ever.
