BB – “Nope – I don’t even know why I’m buying this crap, but I might be able to give away some of it at some weddings I’m going to be invited to.”
i bet she's a big favorite of all her relatives; cheap, regifts and knowingly does it? sounds like the life of the party.

if she showed up and pulled that at something for my family, i'd have taken everything from her and told her to get the hell out. her behavior and attitude were unacceptable, circumstances notwithstanding, but given the circumstances, didn't just cross lines, but flew over them.

wow wow, and wow to the infinitieth power.
    look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

Depends on what the item is. Such as, if someone brought me a huge tub of used Legos...I'd be ecstatic. Same with 1960s model car kits, or another MG, etc.

        Been there

We dealt with something similar with my Grandfather's estate.. the DAY we buried him!

Some asscake "friend" of his (whom I'd only ever seen taking advantage of his generosity) decided that the same day we were holding his wake was the best time to sit down in front of his bookshelf and mark down all the books she wanted.. "because he said it was OK".

Sorry lady, if it's not in the will, it's not yours, period - and even if it WAS in the will, you're enough of an ASSHAT that I'd be tempted to "misplace" the stuff that was left to you. (Not that I would, mind you, Granddad's last wishes weren't up for debate)

As it was, we found NO documentation to support her claim, nor any to back up the claims from multiple "friends" who knew just what they wanted now that he was gone. All of them left empty handed, and I had no issues telling them that I thought they were jackasses for begging / borrowing / mooching off of my Gpa for as long as they had.

A few of them had some choice words to fire back, but they fell short since my Gpa and I were pretty tight - I was the only one in the family he knew he could trust completely (long story), so if ANYONE was going to hear about the secret "you can have this" stuff, it'd have been me.

We had 3 sales for my grandmother's stuff (she's in an Alzheimer's unit not dead).

We didn't get anybody that bad but we got a lot of hagglers a few "I'm an antiques dealer and that is not 'vintage'" to which my mother would happily tell them that she works for an antiques dealer and yes it is in fact "vintage".

One guy haggled me down then picks up more stuff and walks out. Thankfully he didn't come back or I would have given him a piece of my mind.

But really, we were happy to get anything for it. Anything that didn't sell got trashed or donated.
