At least in English the word "bomb" is mostly unambiguous. In Spanish, the word for "bomb" also means "pump", and is used for aerosol cans as well (now I come to think of it, even in English, a spray can that's meant to lock on once you trigger it, like an insecticide fogger, is sometimes called a bomb).

If you happen to have a can of Right Guard in your luggage and you mention it to the inspector using the word "bomba", would that get you in trouble? Or are you just not supposed to bring spray cans onto airplanes in the first place?

(I know that when I order albuterol inhalers from my wholesaler, they have to be shipped ground as they won't take them in air freight.)

I think aerosol cans are classed as dangerous for both hold and cabin baggage.

Spray cans (without an internal pressure behind them) are okay.

anyone else having that scene from Meet the Parents playing in their heads right now... you know the one where Fokker just goes off about all the different words with bomb in it as he is hauled out of the plane because he said "it's not as if I have a bomb in here"

Actually, I think there have been several incidents at CPH Airport where travellers have joked about bombs and got arrested on the spot.

Yes, a quick google search found four separate incidents, there may be more. Apparently the security guards at CPH are instructed to sound the alarm if they hear the word "bomb" in any context.
