  • Clearance!

Just went shopping at an office products store, and decided to browse the clearance section. Yes, I know, the SCs will whaargarbl about the clearance items not being discounted enough, but these had to have been the worst markdowns I've ever seen.

6 rolls of extra-wide packing tape, original price $22.99, *CLEARANCE* price - $22.50!!!

    That's what, a 2% discount?

We get a lot of that, when things are marked clearance, but...it's for the same price.

Fun explaining to people that clearance doesn't mean it's going to be cheaper, just means we're not carrying it anymore...
you are = you're. not "your".

That's just dumb. So is this:

I was in Futureshop today, looking at cameras. They had open-box cameras discounted 5, 10 dollars. Yep, 5 bucks off a $140 camera with a box that had been torn open and taped up, and with no way of knowing if the camera had been dropped or otherwise tortured. Uh, no thanks.
There's no such thing as a stupid question... just stupid people.

On occasion, you'll find sale prices on their website with a negative discount ($100 less discount of -$10 total $110)

You know, it's bizarre. Best Buy and FutureShop are the same company, yet I won't set foot in a Futureshop until I'm desperate. I've consistently had rude, unknowledgable associates "help" me, if I can ever actually find someone (and I've literally stood in the middle of a section for 15 minutes looking to see if I can find someone to help, and the only person I've spotted was someone nearly running past me), yet Best Buy usually has lots of people, highly visible, who seem to know what they're doing, and are usually friendly. Ugh, I wish they'd just close all the Futureshops, stick with BB.

I've never seen a futureshop....but I like Best Buy, as a female buying games/computer stuff for either myself or Mr. Katt, they treat me the same as they treat Mr. Katt.* I've also had the staff read the back of the movies I was buying, and mention it sounded good/interesting, or ask me the next time I came in if it was worth them buying it....

*while gamestore lost my business totally as when I went in to buy Mr. Katt's 360 I was ignored for 15 minutes by the two employees while I was the only customer-finally the older one told the younger one to help me-I bought the 360 elite, extended warranty, and a game-total sale $550-younger one got the sale, older one was pissed
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Pretty sure they're Canada-only. They were bought out by Best Buy shortly before (I think) Best Buy started constructing actual Best Buys in Canada, so while it's been a few years since the merger, FS still has a lot of their practices entrenched.

I can beat that. Yesterday I was in a popular chain music store.. and there was an acoustic guitar in the "clearance" section. Clear as day, the sign said "regular price - $99." "Sale price - $99." I'm no math wiz.. but that seems to me to be a 0% discount.

Sad part is, here in Cheeselandialand, somebody would be all over that. Just to say they got it on sale.

I'm exactly the same way... I'll go to FS if I a) know exactly what I want b) can't get it close to the same price elsewhere, and even then I'll consider going 20 minutes out of my way to shop someplace else.

Sorry but this made me groan. I can't tell you how many people would complain because it wasn't clearanced enough for for them, when I worked the clearance.
wouldn't lube work better in a f***ing machine?

Yes, that’s right. It’s a pair of gold foil headphones. Gold foil. Finally, headphones just as awful as your taste in music.

I've taken to telling those people that it might not go down anymore. Next price change might equal a trip to the dumpster. Which makes no sense to me, but meh, Corporate decides that it's better to trash something rather than sell it, what am I to say...

OOH! I love the people who convinced they're going to get great deals on certain items after Christmas "When they go on clearance".

Like things that there are less than 5 of left. And the seasonal trucks we're getting now are filled with Spring merchandise.

Or things that don't get put on clearance, that we put in storage until next year.

OR! My favorite! Things we carry year round (window candles and suction cups being the big ones). "Oh that's too much! I'll just wait til after Christmas...when they go on clearance".
you are = you're. not "your".

Is that when you stick a "clearance" sign on them without changing the price?

Well, no, since it's an item we always carry. We just shove 'em back in their home location...
