It's douchey and spinless (is there any other kind?) of the managers to ask you to move.

since the theatre wasn't full! I understand if it's a packed house and you need to move over because there literally are no other free seats but yea sorry if there's another row that has the amount of seats free that a group needs then they need to go to that row.

as you said, you showed up early enough to snag the seats you wanted so it's the EW's loss.
Common sense... So rare it's a goddamn superpower.

sometimes i wonder if they should do theatres the way they do them overseas... you pick your seat out when you buy your ticket. each ticket corresponds to a specific seat

i too believe in taking my trash out with me. sure popcorn does fall but.. no reason i can't put my drink and junk in the trash.

I went to a concert once and there were people already in our seats. I showed them our tickets and asked them to let us sit where we had paid to be. They angrily pointed and said "There are emply seats up there." I said "Great, then you'll have some place to sit!" They left, but were clearly annoyed that we wouldn't let them have OUR seats. We're awful people...

I can't believe the theater's management was trying to get you to change seats! I can understand that if the SC's were whining they had to go through the motions of asking you nicely but once you said no that's THAT!!

As for the end of the movie - if you buy soda popcorn, snacks, whatever, PICK UP YOUR F***ING TRASH. The floor is NOT the trash bin and they have plenty of them in the hallways. Do you just throw your cans and wrappers when you're one with them on the floor at home? I don't think so - why the the movie theater any different??
AMEN!!! When my friend and I were leaving after "Julie & Julia" (yes, that's the last movie I went to!), some asshats that were in the same row not only left their trash but left it completely in the walking area. I picked it up and my a loud comment to my friend about people not picking up after themselves. Don't know if they heard me or not.

I could sort of understand if the theater was crowded and that row was the only one that could accommodate the group. But seeing as how there were other rows available, but they just didn't want to sit there. Obviously you didn't want to sit there either and you got there early enough to get what you wanted, yet the manager sided with the group? Unbelievable.

Um, why? Having a large group does not automatically mean you get to sit together.
I'm with Geek King on this. Whomever gets there first gets to choose their seats and reamain in them. Even if the theater is crowded, nobody should have to move if they don't want to. It's on the people that got there late.

See, this is why I like what an Imax theater near me does.

Last night we went to see Avatar 3D, and it was a sold out show (actually, completely sold out until Jan. 4th), so they told people to start from the middle of the rows and billow out from there, and don't leave any single seats between you and the person next to you in case of any latecomers so they don't have to clamber over you. And once you're seated, that's that. No forcing anybody to move out of your way or anything. If the seats you wanted were taken, look elsewhere.

Thankfully, everyone complied and we were seated in under 10 minutes. Some larger groups who couldn't sit in the same row broke up so they sat in the end caps of the rows, so they were still in a sort of group.

When we went to see Final Fantasy (long time ago...), we were a group of 5-6 people and had, of course, reserved our seats well in advance. However, there was some kind of major technical problem in the theater we went to (largest of their screens broke down), so the staff was doing their best to distribute people across the other screens.

One employee was moving us to another (albeit smaller) screen and got us decent seats there. He was very polite and apologetic, and hey, these things happen, right? So, after he was gone, we sat there waiting for the movie to start, when another group came up to us and claimed we were sitting in their seats. Now, since we'd been moved from our original seats, we didn't have tickets showing our current seat numbers.

                Me = Me
AG = Annoying Guy, spokesman for the group

AG: Yeah, those are our seats. The guy at the entrance told us to sit here.
Me: Funny, he told us the same thing. And we're already sitting here.
AG: So? Just get up and ask him again, he's obviously mistaken.
Me: (Yeah, right!) How about you go and ask him? Bring him in, and if he asks us to move, we'll move. Other than that, we're fine right here, thanks.
                AG: Mumble grumble...

They left, never to return. Not a big surprise there.

But, to the OP: major EWs there, and a pretty dumb manager. Good for you that you didn't let them walk all over you.

Had that once at the cinema, when my boyf and I went to see LOTR: The Fellowship Of The Ring. Cuz I thought that the cinema would be packed out, my boyf rang ahead and reserved us some first class seats. They not only have a better view of the screen, but also have more leg room; both my boyf and I are tall people. When we got to the seats, this couple were sitting in them. I told them to move; they refused. My boyf then came up and told them that they could either move by themselves, or he'd pick them up bodily and throw them out the seats. My boyf is very big as well as tall and is a biker. They moved.

DAMN YOU!!! We've been trying to get tickets for our iMAX - we may go some evening this week.

But - they do the same in our iMAX, they ask you to sit in the middle of the rows which everyone goes along with (it was like that when we saw Star Trek).

Do it online, if you can...we purchased ours a week in advance, and I'm glad that we did considering there were signs posted up that they were sold out until Jan 4th. If you check online you might be able to secure some before they do sell out.

And the movie is a definite must-see in Imax...does it much justice.

Sorry, but reserved seats or not, a threat like that to me and the police would be involved. That crossed into SC-dom.

Hardly. Let's just chalk this one up to cultural differences, okay? Where I live, the police wouldn't bother themselves with something that minor; and if threats were all it took to get the bizzies out, half the population would be down the cop shop.

I went to the movies today with my daughter to see Alvin and the Chipmunks (first one was better) and we get there early enough to get our popcorn and the seats we want. We usually sit towards the end of a row. About 2 minutes before the previews start a lady and about 5 kids come in and go to our row and ask some people to move around so they all could sit together. The theater was not crowded but I guess they wanted to sit near the top. The lady sits down right next to my daughter and this lady had 2 bags full of snacks she bought at the store.

She was passing around snacks to the kids and pouring gatorade into their cups. There was a sit next to me so I moved to that one so my daughter did not have to sit next to this lady while she fumbled around in her bags. If the place is crowded then you have to sit next to somebody but if it is not then I rather have my space.

I may call today or tomorrow to see if I can get a Sat matinee.
