    This story really made me smile. I used to have a manager like that. But at least she didn't try to be sneaky. She would change the schedule all the time when I wasn't there. She actually even told me once that she expected me to call in a couple of times a day to be sure she hadn't changed it. Needless to say I don't work there anymore.

      We make changes in the schedule in red ink. It always looks like somebody opened a vein on it. However, we're usually changing it because somebody needs to switch shifts or somebody called out sick and somebody else came in to cover. I think I've only made one switch that wasn't at the request of a team member and I damn sure called and made sure they were aware of it before I moved them around. I mean, if you really want your employees to show up, why wouldn't you?

        And there's the point of it, at least with some managers. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of these stunts (not all, just some) were an effort to set up a paper trail to get rid of an employee. What I don't get is why this always seems to happen to the better employees, while those who need to be fired never get touched.

          one of my previous co-workers would do that to her staff all the time. She would put them in for replacement shifts, and not give them a call. She would just expect them to check the schedule everytime they work and call in on their days off?? It was, in my opinion, totally unethical and just plain irresponsible.
          Sorry, my love cannot be bought. And if it could, you obviously don't have enough in your account to do so.

            With the way it was handled, it sounds like that manager's been on poor WS for a while and she was waiting to bust out the knowledge about the date stamp on the printout and pwn him.

            Competent underlings are a threat to authority and longevity.

            Morons as underlings are an easy place to shift blame and will likely never be considered to replace you.
