  • Mother of the year

Last week I had to make a stop at a local supermarket for a few items for a party. One of the items was a small cake. I was looking at the selections in the bakery, ahead of me was a group of 4 people asking the clerk some questions. In the group was a child about 7, a mother (i assume) and two teenage/early 20 males.

The had the cake to the clerk, who writes something on it and place it on the counter to slide over to the SC.

SC: *grabe cake in plastic box* Hey!!!! It upside down!!!!!
Clerk: Let me just (the clerk had placed the box on the counter right side facing them, therefore "upside down" to the SC all than had to do was spin it 180)
SC to older male: What a idiot.
    Clerk: there you go.
SC: *takes cake, looks, shows to older male) It's wrong.
    Clerk: What is wrong?
SC: THIS! *flips box over shakes inside box, walks over to cart with said child in it* <child's name> Guess what! Your not getting a f***ing birthday cake because the <store> hires retarded c**ts! Look what the retard did.

Both clerk and myself are watching with the WTF look.

SC: Hers you f***ing cake. *throws it into the display case with all the pre made and boxed cakes.*
Older male1: Thanks asshole!!! You ruined a 7 yer olds birthday! Jerk!

The stomp off, child crying and SC telling other shoppers how horrible the store is. The clerk goes over the the phone and calls someone, a manager or LP I can assume. I catch "they were here again and destroyed a cake." They hang up and help me.

As I am leaving I see a manager walk over to the bakery are holding a digital camera and another manager and a plains close person (LP I guess) had confronted the SC and group, now minus the two teenagers/early 20's bunch.

Ironically the clerk behind the counter was very clearly a male employee in their 30's.

I hope they at least made them pay for the cake(s) they ruined. Sounds like they were repeat offenders.

Ever hear of a 710 cap?

Someone went into the auto parts store asking for a 710 cap. The parts guy didn't know what the hell he was talking about, so he asked for a description. "Oh, you know, it covers where you put the oil into the engine..."

OK, that's really just a joke, but something similar happened in real life: There was a synthesizer called the Korg 01/W. (This was an excellent synth, or "music workstation" if you went by the label. My brother the keyboard player used one as his main ax, hauling it to gigs practically every night for about fourteen years, until it was basically worn out to the point where his repairman couldn't hold it together anymore and he had to retire it.)

So why was it called the 01/W? Who starts a model number with a leading zero?

Well, the story goes that the machine was supposed to be the follow-up model to their original digital synth, which was designated M/1, and they were going to call the new model the M/10. Unfortunately the guy who came up with the model number happened to be sitting across the table from the CEO, so when he slid the document over to the CEO for his approval, the latter saw 01/W instead of M/10, and nobody wanted to correct him...

(There's an older version of the story that had it called the M/10 right up to the beginning of production, but some genius at the factory, who probably couldn't read romaji, got the silk screen upside down, and they figured it would be cheaper to change the name than reprint all the cases.)

I'm glad someone said it. and in this case it is true poor kid feel bad that those are the people he related to. I really don't know why more people aren't ran over in parking lots for the good of the world after reading most of these boards.
I'm sorry reading is not a new concept it has been widely taught in our nation for at least the past 100 years. Please, learn to do it CORRECTLY before you become contagious.

Was she trying to be an asshole on purpose? If she was, than she passes with flying colors.

I am reminded of a couple years ago, when we sold dnL soda, but never mind.

Meanwhile, I check nearly every cake with writing on it that comes through my line. I've seen them misspell "Happy Birthday" (with an X!).
Why do they make Superglue but not Batglue?

Doesn't work on some older cars though...like Alfa Romeos. Those caps say "Olio"

I've heard of a hotel in Moscow where the 2 wings have vastly different styles of trim. Why is this? The architect prepared the drawings with the 2 wings showing alternative trim styles (idea being "pick which one you want for the whole hotel"), but when he showed it to Stalin, the response was "Good - build it."

Ok, I'm not quite sure I follow what happened in the OP. I'm not saying it was an unclear post, just that my brain is boggling at the magnitude of what these people did.

So what happened is that the customers came to pick up the cake, which was to spec, and when they couldn't find any reason to refuse to take the cake, they ruined it, and swore at the kid, explaining that there would be no birthday cake because the store had ruined the cake? (And yes, I know that they ruined a bunch of other cakes too, but that's just plain old SC maliciousness, it doesn't confuse me as much as this).

Okay, forget how sucky they were as CUSTOMERS....

How sucky was that as a PARENT? I would NEVER EVER do that to my child. If the cake with their name on it was incorrect, I'd just ask to have the mistake scraped off and redone (I used to work in a bakery, easiest thing in the world to just use a knife to scrape the offending message off). I'd never disappoint my kids like that. If it was really just that bad, they could have said it was unacceptable and asked for an unmarked cake. Jerks.

                        Speaking of Stalin...

If you look at a map of Western Russia (or Eastern Europe, take your pick), you'll notice that the railway line between St. Petersburg (or Leningrad if your map is old) and Moscow is arrow-straight.

The story goes that as this was the first major line to be built in Russia, the railway engineers went to the Tsar, placed a map before him, and asked him where the line should be built. The Tsar sent for a ruler, and drew a straight line. Luckily, the land was flat enough to allow it...

Those were sucky a**hat customers!! I'm glad the store went after them.

I remember we had a woman who was caught shoplifting. She had purchased a cake and a bunch of party decorations and had 4-young children with her with the youngest in the shopping cart. However, she had tried to STEAL all the presents for the youngest child! While we were waiting for the police, she was going-on to her youngest about how WE ruined her birthday party and now she wasn't going to get any presents because we were horrible people!

Apparently the SR-71 was originally going to be called the RS-71 but Kennedy mentioned it somewhere as the SR-71 and therefore it became the SR-71 because noone wanted to correct him. I wonder how much that cost us.

Basically a true story, but it was President Johnson. And the misquote was arranged by AF Chief of Staff Curtis Lemay. Details here.
