Basically a true story, but it was President Johnson. And the misquote was arranged by AF Chief of Staff Curtis Lemay. Details here.
Did not know that....but then again, what would you expect from a Buckeye...sneaky bastards they are....

    And speaking of Stalin stories:
Apparently the Soviets got their hands on a B-29 and Stalin wanted a long range heavy bomber so he had the Tupolev folks copy it. They went so far as to copy bullet holes on the wings. I'm not sure if this part was correct or not but apparently there was a debate on what stars to put on it, since Stalin said copy it exactly. they ended up opting for the red stars. What's even funnier is that as they were testing it, they had some of the same engine fire failures that we had early on in the program.

But back to our story....what a bitch. Sounds like she was hoping for a free cake since her preciouses would be traumitzied forever.

The story goes that as this was the first major line to be built in Russia, the railway engineers went to the Tsar, placed a map before him, and asked him where the line should be built. The Tsar sent for a ruler, and drew a straight line. Luckily, the land was flat enough to allow it...
There are actually a few curves in the line about halfway between Moscow and St Pete. There's a variation on this story that says that this was where the Tsar's knuckles hung over the edge of the ruler...

Exactly. One part had been replaced and had different color paint, this was copied exactly. The biggest problem was that the US plane was built with US dimensions (inches, feet, etc) while the Soviet's used metric. There was no way to get that close a tolerance which meant some parts were larger and some were smaller which caused no end of problems...

That poor kid. He's going to imitate what he sees and lives with. He will never know happiness because dear dumb Mom has to behave like a rabid baboon!!! Forgive me...baboons behave better.

Doesn't work on some older cars though...like Alfa Romeos. Those caps say "Olio"
My '75 Rabbit's cap read "Oel."

Ever hear of a 710 cap?
It's not just a joke. I know at least 2 people who have worked in parts stores who have had that very thing happen to them.
