Store made me pay for sucky customer!!

    Here's an update, I had an email back from "beach thing corporate" they say its an independent site which carries their name so they cant help directly but will pass my email to the site owners, in which case i bet its a family member who served me.

    I have said yes pass on my details but now I wonder if anything will happen.
    I would email them back, with a comment about fine, but it will be their name that's seen on the TV news or in the newspaper when you take it to the media, watchers might not be quite so discerning as to seperate the two in all the hype.

    So they just might want to lean on the owners a bit if they don't want it to come to that.

    Might not be their responsibility legally, but their good name is at stake as well, since they allow that owner to use their name. You know they have a contract between the gas company and the local owners to use that name, and you know there has to be a clause that prevents the owners from doing things that would harm the gas company's reputation. So while the gas company may not be able to force them, they can certainly use that as leverage to get them to behave in a proper manner.

      I've only had once when I went to pay for gas and there was an issue. I went in, said I had $20 on pump 2 and the clerk argued with me that I didn't. I looked at them, said "Look outside, I swear to G-d that parked next to pump 2 is my jeep". Someone else had come in and paid for my pump, they found another pump with $20 on it, and I paid that. Even Steven, I only had to argue to be allowed to pay
      Everything is great when you're a kid, then you grow up and suddenly you're afraid of the monkey bars...

        You know, reading this again, it sounds like everyone in the gas station (except for the OP) sucked. It's like suck contaminated the store and everyone in it! You must have been immune.

          Late to the party...but what exactly happened? Did you have to pay for the sc's pump and your own too?

            another update

            beach thing corporate sent me another email apologisiing that they couldn't let the independant retailer know there was a problem untill now because all systems were down, yep i noticed telephones weren't working and all the mail boxes were sealed up, anyway

            they have now said i will have an answer in 48 hours, i shall see

            for those who are confused, i didnt have to pay for the sucky customers purchase but i was asked to break up my own purchase into two transcations so she could be paid off my transaction, it seemed scammish to me and i refused, apart from the inconvenience to me when he first demanded i get cash to pay her.

            Also I was made to "pay" for her mistake in terms of the way i was treated, she should have been made to pay for her own mistake by being treated badly.

            But the way i was asked to pay was definately strange and worrying.
            Customer "why did you answer the phone if you can't help me?"

              Yeah...either the clerk was a total fucking moron (wouldn't rule it out)

              or he was a scammer. As others have pointed out, you did not need to be involved at all, if only he had had the mental competence to understand "void incorrect transaction/re-ring correct transaction".

              Sadly, I know and work with people who would have a hard time grasping this. I mean, even if he overcharged her, all he would have to do is basically give her back change FROM HIS TILL, durrr.

                thank you, i must admit i was wondering at first if perhaps there was something completely normal about it which i just didnt grasp, but i still dont get it, and you are right, he doesnt need to break up MY transaction to pay her back at all, whether i pay by card or cash or whatever.Boyfriend did not get it either but he said he paid to get away but wasnt happy about the two authorisations on the card when the transaction was broken up.And i cant see how she can be paid back by our card transction anyway.

                When or if i ever get an explanation i will be sure to share it.

                  Nope; all he'd have to do is the following:

                  Refund the transaction/void the transaction.
                  Do a manual transaction with the correct amount for you to pay.
                  Redo the transaction for the idiot to pay.

                  Easy peasy. And he was being a dick, so deserves to get told off.

                        What kind of sense does that make?

                          Really, then that's even worse.What is more astounding the is that he wanted to do that with the petrol transaction then ring up a different ie a third transaction for the magazine i also wanted, i said no way to 3 transactions and put it back on the shelf.This also pissed me off that due to idiot woman i coud not buy a magazine.

                          And no, i have heard nothing. why am i not surprised?

                              This is why boyfriend is going to check his bank statement very thoroughly when it comes in and why I refused to do it.Just in case there was some major banking scam going on, boyfriend has less in his bank account to lose than i do, if that makes sense.

                                If you don't have online access to the bank account info, you might want to consider going to your bank and having them look up the transactions now, rather than wait for the statement - a lot of harm can be done in the time it takes between statements. And if the total charged to your account doesn't equal exactly the total gas you pumped, you will need to know that when speaking with the gas company or the media, etc. Since it is a case of possible fraud, they shouldn't charge you any fees (assuming they normally would charge fees) for looking up the info.
