Obviously the 7-11 manager's heart is in the right place, but what business is it of his how the detail shop deals with its employees?

He doesn't really have any right to see those termination papers. Just like the people who write complaint letters and demand that they be informed of an employee's firing before they decide to do business someplace again. But I'm going to chalk this up to righteous outrage.

I hope he just perma-banned the detail shop's employees from his store and spread the word about them. Sounds like the manager of that place is just as homophobic as his employees are, or is an enabler of their behavior at the very least. The 7-11 manager may have gone a bit too far but still deserves a ton of praise for taking a stand against that kind of behavior.

Please tell the 7-11 manager that they are an awesome person and even though they kind of pulled an illegal (or at least very bad) move with demanding termination and such, they are doing it for the right reason.

Sounds like the 7-11 manager is trying to bring peer pressure agains the 3 douchebags since the body shop probably has many more than 3 employees. If no names were given, I doubt the 3 douchebags will identify themselves.

Okay....there's nothing christian about them. They only speak for themselves. As a christian (would never do what they did) I find it offensive when we are knocked for the actions of a few losers. The majority of us would never do stuff like that. What you're doing is just as bad as what they're doing.

Actually he asked for the termination papers knowing it was an unmeetable condition... he has no expectation to actually see them... he might as well have told them they could come back when they provided a rock from mars.
Something I learned today is that manager used to be friends with those employees and had no idea that they were homophobic and a lot of his outrage was over the fact that he had made the mistake of thinking they were people they weren't.
That and apparently he has some relationship (not direct, maybe cousin or something like that, he didn't say) that is gay so it's a topic that hits him close to home.

where's this 7-11? I'll make it a point to fill up there when I'm in SLC and buy caffeine or candy or something on any road trip. :-D

To the OP, have you considered contacting your area Chamber of Commerce or the Better Business Bureau about this incident?

I'm not sure what, if anything, they could do. However, they might be able to give you some advice on how to deal with the business. You never know, other local businesses may find this behavior outrageous enough to extert some peer pressure on a professional level. Trust me, word does get around within these organizations.

At the very least, it certainly sounds like something that should be reported to the police for purposes of documentation in case something similar happens in the future. It's sad the world has come to this, but it's important to document every little thing in situations like this.
