  • Not all you bartenders are like this I know...

...but there's some of those out there.

Small real estate office Christmas party at a popular regional restaurant chain, maybe 14 of us & we tip well,no problem for a good wait & bar staff.

I order a Glenlivet on the rocks (yeah, yeah,I don't wanna hear it,I'm an American,I like ice ) & a few minutes later get my drink,of,as I could tell after the 1st sip,Johnny Walker Red.

So I called the young lady back & asked her to tell the bartender that he should NEVER try to fool a scotch drinker.Y'all see the mistake he made there.I ended up with Dewar's.Yes,on the rocks .

Then my colleague Judy orders an Amaretto Sour & the waitress came back & says "The bartender needs to know what's in an Amaretto Sour..."

All of us in earshot: 4-5 of us said almost in unison "It's a Whiskey Sour with Amaretto!!!"

Last summer,a very nice place in Orlando, stopped for a drink & munchies,I order a Jim Beam Black Label & Coke. She comes back & says "We have Johnny Walker Black & Black Velvet"

    *Sigh*

    "I'll have a Beam & Coke please"

Next time you're in that bar, ask the bartender for a Bloody Mary. Be sure and take pics of the aftermath.

I've had a bartender insist that a martini and a gimlet are the same thing

This is why if I'm not at the bar where my awesome bartender who makes special custom drinks* is at, I KISS when it comes to drinks - Keep It Simple Sweetheart: Cranberry and Vodka (w/ sprite) or a universal drink like a Tequila Sunrise, or even a Mai Tai - but even that's iffy as not everybody makes it the same

Hey, I like my scotch on the rocks too. Of course my idea of "rocks" are 4 or 5 cubes of frozen granite.
(Yes, I know these are soapstone. I got mine as a gift and they a different set.)

Serve me the wrong scotch and you'll be wearing it. Rocks and all.

I used to love Sea Breezes, which (to my knowledge) was grapefruit juice and vodka. Of course about half the bars I ever went to tried to give me cranberry and vodka. Maybe they were all out of grapefruit? Since I like those too I usually wouldn't say anything. But still!

I like 'em!!! Gotta get some

Not exactly bartender/waitress (our waitress was very good & very pretty) related, but the last time we were in San Antonio we went to the Tower of the Americas I ordered a Shiner Bock. They didn't have it! I said to PYW* I was suprised, seein' as how it's one of Texas's most famous beers & the brewery ain't but an hour or so east of San Antone.

I always thought that grapefruit and vodka was a Grayhound. (It's what my mother used to like.)

Sadly I run into too many batenders that don't have a clue what they're doing.I tend to be a little harsh on them just because my family's been in the restaurant & bar business for 3 generations & I've worked in bars as a musician for 35+ years.

I did a quick Google, and it turns out that a Sea Breeze is vodka with both grapefruit and cranberry juice.

for those of you with a sweet tooth, try this:

1 cup hot chocolate (in a slightly larger than normal mug)
                              1 shot kaluha
                              1 shot bailey's
top with whipped cream and enjoy.
                              look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)
