Teskeria, Geek King: finally! People after my own heart! People always look at me funny when I tell them I read about 150~ pages an hour on the usual paperback. Also, I have a library of my own... which yes includes Jim Butcher books. :3
RE Changes: eh, when I knew there'd be another book, I was mostly chill. Just glad it wasn't the end. .____. After all, Jim had said he'd only do about 12 books.

In addition to the other reasons given, they'll also hold flights for a few minutes if it's for passengers who are late because their connecting flight was late.

I do remember being 7 years old, moving from Seattle to Germany. My poor dad was by himself because Mom had her orders and went a month before we did. He had to get 4 kids ages 1-7 up at 2 AM to take a 3-leg journey that involved a shuttle from LaGuardia to JFK (or was it the other way around?) in NYC. Our dog got stuck in the elevator at the Salt Lake City airport and was on a different flight than we were. They held an international flight, the last flight out of the night, for my family. I remember a group of flight attendants just grabbed me and my siblings and basically carried us through the airport to that last plane. There were whispers all around of "that poor man!" I mean, really, a baby strapped to his chest, a toddler in a stroller, two little girls holding hands and running to keep up...

That number has been revised upward by several books. I saw Jim at a book signing* when Changes came out, and he said the story and characters dragged things in directions he didn't plan on when he first wrote the outline for the series. Trust Harry to complicate a plan.


*Jim Butcher is the most down-to-earth geek you'll ever meet. If he wasn't sitting in the big chair, I'd have never guessed he was one of the best-selling authors of modern fantasy. He talked some about his books, but also a lot about gaming, other books, and meeting famous authors. He'd fit right in with any table of gamers I've met.

That's the hallmark of excellent story-writing: your characters are people. They are real-- except in arranged carbon formatting indicative of humanity.
I got the vibe of his geekdom the first time I saw a picture of him. (and then read his author blurb! ) Confirmed and furthered once I saw the RP book. And his writing. I mean, c'mon. To me, it smacked of more than a little of the author's own personality. (in a totally appropriate way, mind) I want to kiss that man, wife be damned. (love you Shannon, don't want to steal him forever... wish I could tho. ) EDIT: ... maybe I'll ask Mrs. Butcher if I can? Just a peck, on the cheek, I swear.

Another person who fits right in at the gaming table? Randy Milholland of Something Positive fame (NSFW comic). I played a Call of Cthulu riff game called Burrows and Bunnies at my only 'con back in 07. :3 We played bunnies at Miskatonic U. Lots of running. XD
EDIT: I second "Polka will never die" as the best one-off line. There are so many to choose from, however...
