also please no spoilers for Ghost Story why money why?
The first five chapters are posted on his site.

... but reading them will only want you to have the rest of the book in your hands that much more...

    ^-.-^

There were whispers all around of "that poor man!"
Poor man indeed! That (in my mind's eye) is so cute...

That number has been revised upward by several books. I saw Jim at a book signing* when Changes came out, and he said the story and characters dragged things in directions he didn't plan on when he first wrote the outline for the series. Trust Harry to complicate a plan.
*Jim Butcher is the most down-to-earth geek you'll ever meet. If he wasn't sitting in the big chair, I'd have never guessed he was one of the best-selling authors of modern fantasy. He talked some about his books, but also a lot about gaming, other books, and meeting famous authors. He'd fit right in with any table of gamers I've met.
That's the hallmark of excellent story-writing: your characters are people. They are real-- except in arranged carbon formatting indicative of humanity.
I got the vibe of his geekdom the first time I saw a picture of him. (and then read his author blurb! ) Confirmed and furthered once I saw the RP book. And his writing. I mean, c'mon. To me, it smacked of more than a little of the author's own personality. (in a totally appropriate way, mind) I want to kiss that man, wife be damned. (love you Shannon, don't want to steal him forever... wish I could tho. ) EDIT: ... maybe I'll ask Mrs. Butcher if I can? Just a peck, on the cheek, I swear.
/totally jellies of Geek_King meeting Jim Butcher
Another person who fits right in at the gaming table? Randy Milholland of Something Positive fame (NSFW comic). I played a Call of Cthulu riff game called Burrows and Bunnies at my only 'con back in 07. :3 We played bunnies at Miskatonic U. Lots of running. XD
EDIT: I second "Polka will never die" as the best one-off line. There are so many to choose from, however...

Ah, yes, Summer Knight, the book with perhaps one of the best battle cries ever put in print.

    ((Spoilered below--
    "I DON'T BELIEVE IN FAIRIES!"))
Oh yes. Definitely an awesome battle cry!

After all, Jim had said he'd only do about 12 books.

In addition to the other reasons given, they'll also hold flights for a few minutes if it's for passengers who are late because their connecting flight was late.
I do remember being 7 years old, moving from Seattle to Germany. My poor dad was by himself because Mom had her orders and went a month before we did. He had to get 4 kids ages 1-7 up at 2 AM to take a 3-leg journey that involved a shuttle from LaGuardia to JFK (or was it the other way around?) in NYC. Our dog got stuck in the elevator at the Salt Lake City airport and was on a different flight than we were. They held an international flight, the last flight out of the night, for my family. I remember a group of flight attendants just grabbed me and my siblings and basically carried us through the airport to that last plane. There were whispers all around of "that poor man!" I mean, really, a baby strapped to his chest, a toddler in a stroller, two little girls holding hands and running to keep up...

Teskeria, Geek King: finally! People after my own heart! People always look at me funny when I tell them I read about 150~ pages an hour on the usual paperback. Also, I have a library of my own... which yes includes Jim Butcher books. :3
RE Changes: eh, when I knew there'd be another book, I was mostly chill. Just glad it wasn't the end. .____. After all, Jim had said he'd only do about 12 books.

Most likely because those people have absolutely no say in getting there earlier. If you're delayed because of the lines at security, ticketing, traffic, etc., you always had the option of leaving earlier. Leaving earlier isn't going to make your previous flight reach your connecting flight any faster.

I wonder how they decide who they wait for and who they won't. I agree with the airline on this one, but I've also had airlines page over and over for one flier and let them on immediately before the flight leaves. I assume it comes down to VIP status, but I've always wondered.

800 sq foot house. We can't swing the cat if we wanted to.

    [...].
You're not telling me anything I'm not living through. Roommate Jay and I were renting a nice townhouse with two stories and a finished basement. The owners suddenly decide they want to sell (just as our lease was up), and the new owners want to redo the place and flip it, so we get thirty days notice to move, with very little warning. The only reason we took the place we're at now is it was just about the only place that was:

    1) Available to move into.

    2) Allowed me to keep my cat without some rediculous pet fee added every month.*

    3) had three bedrooms. One for me, one for Jay, and one for our library.

We still had to get a storage unit for some stuff, as we lost over 500 square feet of floor space in the move. Also had to get a smaller couch, as the super couch I had (3-piece sectional with pull-out bed and two recliners built-in. My graduation gift to myself. ) Wierdly, the washer/dryer hookup is in the third bedroom, and not even in a closet. Just right there in the middle of the wall. Really strange layout. I'd hate to be the kid(s) who got that room in the family.

*Seriously, an extra $50-100 per month for a nine pound, indoor cat? Thanks for letting me know about management's nickle-and-dime philosophy before I sign a contract, kthxbai!

I've not been on such a long trip that I've needed that many.

I'm also a bit old fasioned. I like to flip pages and whatnot. Plus, nothing shows off your collection like a roomful of bookshelves. I also act as a bit of a lending library for my friends who like the same sorts of things to read. I'm not willing to lend out my laptop so I can hook introduce more people to the Dresden series.

Honest, the jackass who did the house was absolutely clueless. There is not even a space to really fit any sort of dining table, he expected people to sit at this tiny 4x4 counter that has an overhang of 4 inches on 2 sides...we are currently working on gutting the house [again] and making the 2 microscopic closetless bedrooms into one normal sized bedroom with an actual closet, and the strange kitchen and entry hall end of the hoses into a 14x20 country kitchen with an actual dining table.

Is that ebooks? And I though I had a lot at 111. It's up from previous post because I downloaded 32 of the Discworld books, and some others, last night from ePrint Studio.
Yup, epub format. I hate PDF format. I actually have both a kindle and nook, I gave the nook to one friend and the kindle to our roomie, I prefer just lugging around a single electronic whizzbang. Phone, ebooks, internet and it fits in the pocket on my purse.
