Took our dog to the local vet today to be bathed.
While I was waiting this woman (I will refer to her as BCSW – bat shit crazy woman) came in saying she had a Malamute in her car that she found on the street. She said that she had seen the owner walking the dog often, but didn’t know exactly where he lived. She wanted the vet to check the micro chip and give her the owners address.
The vet advised her that they can’t give out those details and if the dog was chipped, the vet would have to contact the owner and advise them the dog was at the clinic. (FYI – the dog was not chipped)
BSCW asked how much was it going to cost the owner to get their dog back. The vet asked why she was asking, it’s not like she had to pay anything. BSCW again started asking why they couldn’t just give her the owners details. Again the vet explained that under the companion animal laws, they can’. BSCW just didn’t seem to get it.
It was about this time that I piped up and told her that the rules were there to protect the owner from crazy stalkers who are trying to find out where they live (yes, I did actually say that) and how would she like people giving out her contact details to strangers.
She asked for the dog back and said she would ask another neighbour who probably knew where the owner lived. The vet informed her that they could not give the dog to her as she was not the owner of the dog.
Well this did not sit well with BSCW. She stated demanding the dog back and when told she couldn’t have it, wanted the vet to show her, in writting, where said that they didn’t have to give her the dog. This was the point where BSCW started earning her name.
She kept demanding that they give her the dog. The vet asked the nurse to call the council and have a ranger come pick the dog up and take it to the pound. The customer demanded to speak to the ranger and at one point was put on the phone to the council where she kept demanding to speak to the ranger and eventually hyng up on the poor woman at the other end.
By now, the head Vet had come out and was in heated discussion with BSCW. (I missed most of this as hey had brought my dog back and I was paying the account) She kept demanding they give her the dog. The head vet finally had enough and told the nurse to call the police as the woman would not leave despite being asked to do so repeatedly.
BSCW started ranting that she would never bring her animals here, how the vet was just trying to make money off everyone and that she would tell 10 people about how horrible they were and they would tell 10 people, etc…..
Having had enough of listening to this, I piped up again and said “and I’m going to tell 10 people that you’re a nut bag”
BSCW told me to butt out, it was none of my business. she started yelling incoherently at this point
In a rather loud voice I said “Oh, would you just Fuck Off!!!”
BSCW goes “What did you say?”
I go “I said, Fuck off”
BSCW: That’s assult!!! Call the police
Me: “Oh for gods sake!!! Get a grip you nutbag!!”
Customer left yelling more incoherently
I apologized profusely to the staff for cursing in front of them and left.
Spoke to the vet about an hour later and they had managed to locate the owner of the dog, so a happy ending for the dog at least.
