What scares me is she sounds kinda like the type to lead dogs out of their own yard so she can later "find" them and demand payment.

I have to admit this thought did occur to me and I breifly wondered if she may have followed my car home (even though I left about 5mins after her)

Abbey is such a freindly dog (too freindly sometimes) that she would probably go with someone if they coaxed her.

The next day when I went to work I was nervous that I would come home to no dog. Abbey has gotten out on 2 occassions when it was windy and the gate blew open, but we have installed a second bolt on the gate so it can't happen.

Yikes, sounds like the people who were going and stealing pets, and then "selling" them back to the owners. Unfortunately, this was out in the country, so if the owners didn't claim their pets in time they were shot.
I hope nutjob lady gets banned forever, and never has pets. What a crazy person.
I'm glad to hear the dog is safe though, who knows what she might have done to it.

Too bad nobody thought to try and find the nutjob's owner. lol

She might have been a stray.

In which case, I recommend a flea dip, distemper shots, and neutering.
