I went to look up something for a friend who is still without power. I checked the CL&P facebook to see if I would get lucky and find it there. OMG It's a mad house. Anyone who DARES defend the employees are attacked, then accused of attacking the attackers...There is one woman reminding people that it's not the line worker's fault, and they need breaks too, only to hear "We aren't blaming the lineworkers!!!!!!111!!! Why are they standing around!! I saw them standing around!! I need power!!! They are so lazy! They are getting paid for this! They aren't allowed to complain!! They are waiting to get their pictures taken so they can look good! I'm going to take their pictures and send it to the news! They aren't working!!!!!!!!! Stop telling us we are blaming the lineworkers cause we aren't!!!!" Is it wrong that that was pretty much verbatim?

Personally I think the complaining in any pictures posted "Why are you taking pictures when you should be fixing it!" And complaining that the person updating the fb and answering questions isn't answering them fast enough, or not out there fixing is rather funny. Maybe those people taking the pictures, or answering the questions don't know how to work on the lines? Maybe they have other jobs to do and can't answer right away?

Exactly. People are also complaining about the power not being underground, which is something I do somewhat sympathize with..

We don't even have that option here -- below sea level and "coffee grounds" as a foundation = NOTHING is underground here that doesn't have to be. Not even the cemetaries.

Here in Chicago we had a pretty bad storm in July for THIRTY MINUTES that took out power for 4 days... I can't even imagine what you guys when through.. Those EW's need to find out that real life happens...

I'm from Massachusetts about 30 minutes from Boston. I lost power around 11am on Sunday morning, I pretty much knew from just looking out my apartments window that we would probably not be getting power back right away. I was right, the little city I live in had tons of damage from fallen trees and power lines. Sunday night I stuck it out, I had flashlights, candles, a portable radio with extra batteries, my kindle was charged up along with my cell phone, although bored, I did ok. Because I live alone my family and I would text each other throughout the day to let each other know we were ok and if we had power yet. There really wasn't much I could do, my family couldn't get out to get me yet, and police did not want people on the roads.
By Monday afternoon I started to get worried, I am a diabetic and my insulin needs to be refrigerated (says so on the package) and my apartment was starting to get warmer and warmer, along with my fridge. My front window faces the sun all day and it was warm sunny day, by 3pm my apartment had to have been at least 85 degrees and stifling. I kept praying for power to come on but nope, wasn't gonna happen. Luckily my sister got hers back and told me she was definately coming to get me and pack a bag. So I packed up my insulin and other meds, hoping I'd be home again on Tuesday.
My electric did not come back til today, thursday. Although I missed being in my apartment (I am a loner, love being by myself and enjoy my privacy) I felt more sorry for the people with illnesses (like me) who have to worry about what they're going to do next. Not once while I was at my apartment did I get mad because I couldnt use the internet, or landline phone, or watch tv. The people with ill health are what we should have been worrying about, not what people complaining about not being able to use their computers or bitching because they were missing the MTV awards. Sorry, the power companies aren't going to move any quicker just so people can watch their crap tv.
Yes, I was very lucky I was able to go stay at a relatives house. I feel bad for the elderly and the sick people who had to wait it out, and those that are STILL waiting it out. I pray they get their power back soon.

My niece (who lost power for 3 days) and her kids played board games, read stories, colored in coloring books, did puzzles and made up dance competitions.

To that lady, It's called imagination, try using it lol.

Just got it back 4 pm today. We have a generator [but it doesn't do 220, so no water, just lights and refrigeration] only really bad day was thursday - Rob had to hook off work to repair the generator as it fubared in the middle of the night wednesday. I ended up having to dump a bag of ice and 20 gallons of water into the tub to get my core temp back to reasonable, as I would rather not go to a hospital with brain damage. [I have issues with core temp control and heat, I am most comfortable at about 65. Poor Rob has Hashimotos and is most comfortable at about 85 ... what I was having was essentially the equivalent of a hot flash on top of a fever]

Our only issue was if we could keep the poultry all watered, the assorted critters and people around here go through about 5 gallons of potable water a day. If it went much longer we would have had to start euthanizing. We started out with half a hot tub's worth of potable water and a 55 gal drum of nonpotable for flushing. [we had to drain, flush and refill and when you are working with a rural well, filling a hot tub can take next to forever]

And FEMA gave us a case of the Triple Lie [MREs] ... what did we ever do to them that got them so pissed at us?

I don't really listen to local radio, but the main story in the Hartford Courant every day this week has been people complaining about the power being out. There's some legitimate griping, in my opinion, about how tree-trimming hasn't been done properly in a number of years, which certainly helped make things worse. And the fact they had visiting crews sitting around for a day and a half before local people were available to supervise? Definitely dropped the ball there.

But I'm sorry, whining that your town of ~1,500 is at the back of the line, and big cities like Hartford are getting repairs first? That's the price you pay for living in the country, people, deal with it. Of course CL&P is going to make repairs that help the most # of people first! Geez Louise.

We lost power early Sunday morning, like 6:45am. We didnt get it back til 6:30pm Monday. So i guess we were one of the lucky ones. 85% of my town was out of power at the peak. I know theres people still out, I dont think around here though. My moms friend lives in a town that had 100% outage, and they run on well water. So basically, had no water the whole time. We had crews from Ohio working in our town. What made me mad was that people who werent a part of this storm, mocked us, and said it wasnt a big deal. Ok. so our storm affected like 20 mil plus where as a few million in florida :P

We had a blizzard hit back in 93' ( I live in the South East) and we were listening to a battery operated radio and this woman called up and bitched that her husband, an electrician for the states power company had not been home in 3 days and for every one to quit calling to report their power outage so she could spend some time with him.. This irked me, she knew his job, she knew that if a natural disaster hit, he'd have to work long hours.. This was 3 days after the blizzard hit and a majority of the roads were still closed, I doubt he could've gone home anyways.

(I'm not saying that the workers do not deserve breaks or anything, I just thought it was selfish for that women to expect her husband to be home during that time)
