Some areas of PA are getting like that. .

Sounds like my area. When I was a kid we were surrounded by cornfields. Now it's houses and stores and more houses. They're adding on to our mall (apparently all high-end stuff and they're getting rid of all the cheap teeny-bopper stores like Wet Seal and 5-7-9 to make way for Bloomies and expensive shoes). They're also putting in a Borders at the mall. My first BN is right across the street. I don't think they'll be able to compete. Why drive across the highway when there's Borders right there?

When I was in college I babysat summers for a family in one of the developments near me. Their master bathroom was seriously bigger than my bedroom. And this is one of the older devlopments now; the new ones going in are bigger and more expensive.

And for the parking at the end of the aisle question: Not in my experience. Like someone else said, they all clog up the aisle having reunions, or reading every package on the shelf and ignoring the people trying to get around them - that's when *I* end up parking at the end of the aisle cuz it's easier than trying to fight my way through.

Some people enjoy having a huge house. It's actually become easier for people to get into debt getting a place that big. Some of the newer developments here have had foreclosures...and some of the houses are *still* empty.

I'd rather have a smaller place. Since I live alone, it's easier to deal with. I have only 2 bedrooms (one's been made into an office) to worry about cleaning. Throw in the living room, kitchen, bathroom, and basement...I can clean the entire place in a few hours. Plus, it's extremely cheap to heat and cool the place.

Right now, the town I'm living in, is pretty much all built up. There are a few empty places left though--the empty fields along Route 51, and the former slag pile near the mall. That's it. At one time, a Walmart was proposed for one of those sites. Since we didn't want the crime, traffic, or noise, Walmart was forced to put their store in the neighboring borough. Sure, we don't get the tax dollars, but I think we made the right choice. The town has always been seen as a "sleepy little 'burb of Pittsburgh" and that's the way we like it

Protege, come to the hand state to witness the best of debt diving. Just a few streets away from me is a new development that was once an awesome forest. Anyway, the area I live in is prime for GM, Chrysler, and Ford. Most of the people who bought these houses worked for one of the 3, well with the way things have been going many have been moving out of these atrocious homes. I call them atroucious because I've seen real mansions.

Is it common or customary to park your cart at the end of a grocery store aisle and then shop on down the aisle?

Only if the aisle you need to go down is too clogged to fit a buggy through. (though most people who say "east coast" only mean the northern east coast states for some reason that escapes me)
