If it's any consolation, Uncle Sam will eat up a fair amount of that money. They may only end up with half their winnings when all is said and done. Since I don't play, I don't know the exact tax rate on lotto winnings, but for them, I hope it's a lot.

Between fed & state tax here you lose a total of 40%. So, yeah, he's only getting $6K to keep.

Still, that's enough to pay off my car, credit cards, and still have money left for other stuff. *sigh*

I'd still check with the lottery commission - there seems to be something "not right" about someone selling a lottery ticket to a family member, whether or not they could have known it was a winner.

I remember seeing a scene like this on one of those 'candid camera' clone shows.

The star of the scene would run up to a line of shoppers with big trolleys of groceries, holding only a pineapple and ask to go through first.

If they let him in, he'd pay and then balloons would fall and he'd be given a big cardboard cheque for a million bucks ostensibly for being the 100 millionth customer or something.

If they didn't, the balloons would fall after the original customer passed. Either way, the star of the show would get the fake cheque.

The reactions of some of the people were quite amusing.

Did any money change hands for the scratch ticket? If the husband didn't even pay, that's a big no-no.

Color me confused, but I don't understand why you don't report this to the whatever department oversees the lottery, instead of just thinking about it. I'm sure they're looking out for things like this.

You need to do it and say the hell with the sour grapes. Let them deal with the fall because if it did happen the way you said, I'm sure there are implications. Maybe have the ability to sell lottery tickets taken away or something.
              Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
              DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

Hate to admit it, but I'm vindictive enough to do all I could to see that the couple arer living off that $10,000 for a while (I can think of an extremely few instances where I'd ever complain to the point of jeopardizing someone's job, but this is one of them) - I'd go all the way up the corporate ladder over several points - letting husband cut in line, letting husband take someone else's requested merchandise, letting husband scratch before paying (if that's what happened), selling ticket to husband at all, attitude. and anything else. And tell corporate I'm notifying the lottery commission, because in that business, you have to not only do nothing unethical, but also never give the appearance of doing anything unethical. No problem with firing her, she has 10 grand to live off of for a while.

                Madness takes it's toll....
                Please have exact change ready.

I agree. He cut in line, and didn't even properly pay? Literally, he sidelined you. And it's called conflict of interest, when someone in one relationship switches over to a second relationship when they're still in the first. Don't waste your time with the company. But the Lottery Commission should take a great interest.

This! Very much this! Report what you saw but just stick to the facts. Let them decide if this is worth taking action on.

Yes..just go straight to the lottery commision and tell them everything you told us in the OP. Don't worry about being "sour grapes". I get the impression it happened exactly like you said it did and I think you have a legitimate complaint.
