There should be something on the door frame that triggers it to open from the other side...little sensor, about half way up. Put your hand in front of it, the door opens.
Our store used to have the door like that, but someone complained to someone important (fire marshal? something, I don't know), and it's back to opening from both sides.
The one line thing is great in theory, people do get out faster, but man it's poorly implemented.
