  • Bieber Brawl

I'm a fan of Denny's restaurants. Ask anyone. It's to the point that when I appear in the middle of the night at my local Denny's, they already know to make the special salad I always get, and to bring a bowl of lemons for the tea. Tonight, I went there again and the waitress who is typically there when I am told me about a recent event that happened to her.

I guess this event would be more properly classified as a "hearing" rather than a sighting, but I digress.

Anyway... Not long ago, she had a customer in her section, and this customer was sporting that famous bowl cut favored by Justin Bieber as well as by lesbians everywhere.

Enter a large, fat, drunk redneck and his wife, who sat down nearby. The redneck proceeded to look at the customer with the Bieber hairdo, smirk, and shout out for the whole restaurant to hear, "BAY-BURRRR!!"

    Translation: "Bieber."

He then shouted it several more times, while the customer with the Bieber 'do seethed, and the waitress attempted to just do her job, which involved serving both the redneck and his wife, and the Bieber customer.

Many more BAY-BURRRR's later, the customer with the Bieber hairdo stood up, stepped into the waitress' path and bellowed into her face his thanks for how she had stood up for him. He then threw a full glass of ice water into her face and sprinted from the restaurant to the sounds of the redneck's laughter.

This raises several questions, chief among them why you would ever expect or ask a waitress to be your protector. Especially when she had already asked the redneck to be quiet, asked his wife to ask him to be quiet, and informed the manager of the entire unfolding event.

Seriously, why? Their job is to take your order, get it right, and bring it to you in a timely manner. Their job is not to give a ranting redneck a piece of their mind, or to tell him that no matter how idiotic your haircut looks, it's your right -- as an American! -- to look like a sexless, not to mention talentless, diva if you so choose. It's not their job to tell someone that if you wish to stick your head in a salad bowl and trim around the edges, there's no law to stop you.

So why would you ask that of the waitress?

    What the fuck?

If he was gonna throw a glass of water into anybody's face, why on earth not do it to the jackass who's taunting him?

Becorse that would probably earn him the beating of a lifetime, and he knows it, so he attacks someone that can't retaliate, but we all know that already, don't we?

Bay-burrr is a fucking prick I was actually feeling sympathy for him until I read the part about him throwing ice water in the waitresses face.

Given Bay-Burr's reaction, he deserved all the abuse he got from the redneck.

I partially disagree with this. No, it is not their job to defend your hair cut. However, it is their job to provide an appropriate atmosphere, free of harassment, for their customers. The drunk redneck should have been asked to leave.

Did Bay Burr take the correct course of action? Definitely no.

Did Bay Burr give the restaurant enough opportunity to take care of the problem? I wasn't there, so I don't know. My guess, probably not.

I can see where you are coming from with this, and that's a good point.

However, Bay Burr could have said quietly to the waitress, "Please ask a manager to quiet this guy down," without making a scene.

Bay Burr should not have had to. It should have been the next course of action vs. assaulting the waitress. Politely inform the manager, or the waitress, "Either redneck leaves, or I leave." If the restaurant chooses the later, file a complaint with corporate.

This whole incident should have played out in under 10 minutes, if that long, with redneck either shutting up or being kicked out. After re-reading the post, it sounds to me like it carried on far too long and that Bay Burr was not short fused.

I also have to wonder if they kicked redneck out after Bay Burr threw the water? He should have been.

I'm with csquared on this one. The restaurant clearly failed to provide a pleasant dining atmosphere to BAYBURR (and possibly others nearby, wouldn't know). He was justified in being upset, and possibly demand restitution from the restaurant.

However, in no way was his treatment of the waitress justified. That was just an asshole thing to do.

It sounds like the waitress did ask the two rednecks to shut up, and told the manager, but the manager did nothing after that.

Maybe he just decided to hole up in his office and not do anything. I dunno.

I was sympathising with Beiber lookalike at first, asshat was acting just like the mouth breathing morons that hung around in groups in highschool and did prety much the same thing then.

However when he blamed the waitress for what was happening and threw the water I lost all sympathy, a waitress has a limited ammount of power in this kind of situation, it sounds like she'd already done everything she could to remedy the situation including handing the issue off to a manager.

Personally i think the manager should have stepped in and done something but that in no way excuses lookalike's actions.

I hope that both customers earned themselves a ban. Lookalike for assuating his server and Asshat for, well, being an asshat.

From what she told me, the waitress did do all she could.

This event occurred on a weekend night, when the local Denny's is packed to choking with people in a celebratory mood -- and who have God knows what all chemicals coursing through their bloodstreams. The fat redneck, for example, was drunk.

The waitress told me she asked the redneck to be quiet and when that didn't work, she asked his wife. When that didn't work, she took it to the manager, but either the manager didn't have enough time to act or wasn't inclined. Either way, before anything got done about the situation, the customer with the Bieber do had hurled the glass of water into the waitress' face.

Sounds like the staff at Denny's had done everything they could (or would, in the manager's case-- depending on the timing of Bay Burr's outburst).

Suck was in the hands of both Drunkneck (for being an irritating asshat) and Bay Burr (for assaulting the waitress like that).
