that's probably why he mentioned the permit. in case any of the other people there were thinking of trying to take it from him.

Well, the permit is for a .22 rifle which he obviously didn't have concealed on his person. But they didn't know that.

I once withdrew $3000 cash to pay off a credit card debt, and the teller had a manager come to me and ask me WHY I was taking out the money. I was taken aback- it wasn't any of their business, and told him that if he had a problem with my taking out a measley $3000 for my own reasons, I'd change that to the full $9000 I had in my account, and close it. Israel has manditory armed service requirements. From what I understand, it is the law that, even off-duty, soldiers have carry their service rifle with them at all times. Something about neighbors who lob explosives willy-nilly make them nervous, I guess.

It is also not unusual to see people stop and offer a ride to complete strangers walking down the side of the road with an assault rifle there, from what I was told..
