A friend of mine works at a bookstore, after they got tired of people assuming they could plug their phones in and charge while they sat around reading books (without paying for the book - it IS a library BOOKSTORE after all...), the management purchased the child safety covers that can be plugged into the sockets to stop them being used. Didn't stop people attempting to pry the covers off to get at the power points apparently though.

Friend (to SC): What do you think you're doing?
SC: My phone has gone dead and I'm expecting an important call
Friend (to SC): And why do you think we have covers over our power points?
SC: So kids can't get to them?
Friend: One reason - but more importantly because we are NOT a library or cafe, those are across the road and next door respectively. I suggest you try there instead - they actually have dedicated areas for smartphones and laptops.
    SC: Oh.

This is why I'm VERY glad of two things:

      1) There are powerpoints available EVERYWHERe across the university campus..

      2) the university does not give a shit what you plug into said sockets, provided it's not something like power tools in the library study tables.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm really paranoid about my phone running down during the day so the last thing I do before I jump into bed is to . . . plug the phone up to charge for the night.

And, as a precaution, if I should run low during the day (and it depends on how much I'm using it during the day to get hold of vendor reps and such) I'll have my cable in my purse so if it needs a quick charge, I can plug into the spare outlet behind my desk (after unplugging the ocillating fan that does NOT help in the backroom when it's 90 degrees outside).

I guess I'm just weird that way.

But I NEED my electric chainsaw in the library! It helps me... Uh... Make the books smaller so I can carry them easier, that's it!
