I have two friends that can't see 3D effects because of strabismus. They told me that 3D movies just look really blurry to them. Same with my 3DS.

Yes, they did finally start the movie half an hour late... and even then they had problems, halfway through the second movie the theater lights came back on and the soundtrack cut out and was replaced by the theater commercial track.Quoth PepperElf View Post
hmm. smiley - did you ever get to see the movie?
Yeah, three free passes and free concessions for each and every member of the audience...
Even then, I know they were trying to do that to keep us from giving them bad reviews... but the whole purpose of my paying for the marathon rather than watching it at home was that there was supposed to be an introduction from Peter Jackson that isn't available on the DVDs or Blu Rays... and they ended up not playing it because they didn't have the time... yeah, so you gave it to me for "free", but even free, I wouldn't have driven out of my way and spent 12 hours in a movie theater seat to watch the exact same trilogy I could have watched at home, it was that introduction that made me want to see it in theaters. So needless to say, they are still getting a bad yelp review. If you wish to find meaning, listen to the music not the song

Not that I don't love the movie but... I did that once at home. Gave myself a wicked migraine and threw up.

Yes. I have slightly off eyesight and I see a picture with slightly blurred edges where the colour changes (say the edge of a person) and I don't see the 3D. Its .. lenticular at best, 2D at worst. I also get a hell of a headache within half an hour and on one movie where they 3D swoop over a river and follow it I felt very very sick. I would have taken the refund too.Quoth greek_jester View PostIIRC (please correct me if I've got it wrong) 2 pictures shot at slightly different angles are shown overlapping. The glasses you're given are configured to cut out the inappropriate image for each eye, so that your brain is tricked into seeing the image in 3D.
If you have problems with your eyes working together for true binocular vision (e.g. me) or you have impaired sight in 1 eye, then the effect won't work & you'll get 2D at best, or a blurred picture at worst.
(Annoyingly very few movies are being shown in 2D around here - some of the ones I really wanted to see I'd have to travel 100 miles away to find a 2D showing.I am so SO glad I was not present for this. There would have been an unpleasant duct tape incident. - Joi

This! Exactly. I gritted my teeth through "How to Train Your Dragon" (my 1st 3D film in 12 years), & decided that it would be the last 3D film I went to. Bought it on DVD when it came out, & that's how I'll be doing it from now on when there's no 2D option near me.Quoth Gizmo View PostI also get a hell of a headache within half an hour and on one movie where they 3D swoop over a river and follow it I felt very very sick. I find it really odd that there is such a push to have everything in 3d now between the movie theaters and 3d tvs/cable services. It obviously causes issues in a lot of people so why not just give it up?
I tried looking at a 3d photograph online and it looked liked red and blue blurriness, like the images were not quite matched up. That's what it's like for me.https://www.youtube.com/user/HedgeTV

I do keep looking at these. Has anyone actually tried them themselves? T_G - I think its because its "extra content" as such and they can of course charge more. I also think most of the studios don't want to be seen as not keeping up by not doing 3D stuff. >.<I am so SO glad I was not present for this. There would have been an unpleasant duct tape incident. - Joi

My boyfriend is in the process of trying to make me watch all three films in preparation for The Hobbit (I'm familiar with the story from one of my practicum classes putting on an adapted version of it-I still have the script somewhere I thinkQuoth PepperElf View PostUGH. the MARATHON? ). Doesn't sound so bad right?
Well, except for the fact that my boyfriend has the "Special Edition" boxset and has tried to make me watch all three of them in their extended and uncut glory before. 12 hours. I managed to make it through the first film unscathed. I managed to make it through the second film mostly unscathed. I can remember up until the bit where Legolas and I THINk it was Gimli have a drinking contest in the third film (and Legolas doesn't feel the effects
) and I don't remember much after that.
Yes it does suck.Quoth suburbandecay View Post( I tend to dislike 3d too. Wearing glasses over glasses sucks)
They TRIED to do the 3D service down here. Doesn't work so well when they aren't doing many 3D broadcasts. I'm referring to the ones with the "real D" glasses, not the ones with the red/blue glasses.Quoth telecom_goddess View PostI find it really odd that there is such a push to have everything in 3d now between the movie theaters and 3d tvs/cable services. I wish they would stop doing 3D anything. I can't do it (glasses, plus, I never get the 3D effect! I can't remember ever wearing them and actually "seeing" the 3D effect!) and the 3DS gives me a headache, for the 5 minutes I spent playing it.

Am I the only person who actually likes 3D? Granted, wearing contacts makes it easier than wearing glasses, but for me, when done properly (from a story telling perspective as well as an execution perspective) it does make the movie feel more theatrical than 2D... I mean, when I go to a stage performance, there is depth, not just perspective, but actual depth, and when done properly, 3D can accomplish that.If you wish to find meaning, listen to the music not the song

It's a fad that seems to come and go. 3D flicks were around for a few years in the '80s, again in the '90s, '00s, and they're back once again. It'll pass.Quoth telecom_goddess View PostIt obviously causes issues in a lot of people so why not just give it up?

I've been going to the 3D re-releases of Disney animated movies, and I totally agree. Since these movies are re-releases, there aren't things popping out at the screen at you (since of course they weren't made with 3D in mind), but instead there's this depth that I think is pretty cool.
