  • Loud, annoying, and racist!

Sometimes I forget there are, unfortunately, still people like this in the world, even in this day and age.

My wife and I went to Burger King for lunch yesterday. We sat down two tables away from this older couple, which turned out to be a mistake because they were talking quite loudly, and constantly. Somewhat annoying, but nothing to get too upset over. Still, I was wishing we had picked a table that was farther away.

At one point, I think they were talking about someone they knew who had just left his kids alone in the house and disappeared. Not sure, since I was trying to tune it all out. But then I heard the guy say something about how "those Mexicans are no good. And those black people are even worse. You can't trust those black people!"

My wife and I just looked at each other, not so much disbelieving that they said it, but that they were saying it loud enough for everyone to hear, including one of the employees who happened to be black.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the woman walked over and tried to make conversation with my wife, about how horrible it was that some guy had just left the kids like that. I'm guessing that she figured that she was one of those "no good Mexicans" her husband had been ranting out (she's actually Puerto Rican, but most racists are too stupid to tell the difference), and figured she was offended, and tried to make nice with her. In reality, all it did was made us both uncomfortable. I said absolutely nothing (although I was tempted to ask them their secrets to getting their sheets so white), and my wife said very little to her.

Thankfully, she left, and the husband was already gone. Don't know where he disappeared to, and didn't really care.

My wife lamented about how it's amazing that there are still people like that in this day and age. I told her not to worry about it, since both of them will probably die 50 years before we do.

Bah. These are some of the stupidest people. If there's one concept I don't understand is racism. You don't like another human being because he adapted to the land he was born in. uh.... Nope, sorry, I don't get it.

My coworker "Isabel" is a stunning, olive skin babe-a-tron. She also has a perfect twin sister. A woman once came up to her parents and asked WHERE THEY WERE ADOPTED!!!

If I would have been the mother, I would have replied "In the lower regions of Uterus, between the villages of Fallopians and Tubes."

Geez. It's either "They look different therefore they're good for nuthin'" or "They look different therefore they HAVE to be imported!"

I'm confused. Does Isabel look nothing like her parents? If so I could understand the assumption they're adopted. I'm quite certain my brother and I (who both for some odd reason look middle eastern) hanging out in public with my Dad (white as snow) and my stepmom (is actually white) paint an interesting picture for passerbys.

On the other hand, it wouldn't even matter whether it was a basis of her asking based on race. It's rude to ask about adoption within earshot of the child regardless. Opens up an emotional can of worms if in fact they are adopted and the kids didn't know.

They're not adopted, and the way they're made, they're darker than the parents, dad's hair color and mom's features but Dad's family's eyes... Gives kids that looks drastically different from the parents, but looking like the grandparents, know what I mean?

And from what "Isabel" told me, the lady had the same tone as if she was asking "Are those new shoes? where can I get some!"

From what you posted, I can tell they're not adopted, I was only pointing out that if they look vastly different from the family they're standing next to in public, you're going to get at least one person who looks and wonders if they're adopted. It doesn't mean that they're adopted. Does point out that people shouldn't make assumptions of others anyways.

Again...:: shudder:: what a weird thought. And I'm weird. For a weird person to say, "Crazy!" I think that says something in itself.

Too bad you didn't ask. I'd like to learn the secret. I have a ton of white work shirts that could benefit from regaining their original pristine whiteness.

What's sad is that it seems to be more and more what people are acting like: children as either a fashion or a social accessory, but not, y'know, something to love and care for.

Adopting a foreign child is the new Hollywood fad. Thank Angela Jolie for that.

My daughter is (sort of) adopted... my son keeps asking if we can send her back and get a boy instead. We've had her for 5 1/2 years now LOL (she's about to turn 6, he's 8)

I was thinking that. Chihuahuas are out, cambodgians are in.

I'm not even laughing at that, it's what's currently happening.

I don't see the problem in adopting foreign children. They are leaving a horrible life and going to live with rich people. Dear god someone stop them. Please. Angleina has adopted 3, Madonna 1. Hardly a fad there.

Anyway, racisism isn't rampant today, and thankfully seems to be dying out with the old codgers who preach it, but ignorance breeds. If your parents are racists chances are you will be too. Not always, but it happens often. You have no real idea why you hate someone, just that Dad did (or mom) so you do.

On the other hand, we have plenty of children who need adoption much closer to home. But I suppose they're not as cute or something.

Or it could be the money and difficulty that American adoption agencies make you go through. Including giving the kid back to the birth parents despite them giving it up or not being fit.

But I guess that does'nt matter, facts and all. Now please, before Madmike has to close his own thread drop it.
