  • Right turn red arrow..?

Ok so, as far as I am aware, a red left arrow, obviously means stop until green, correct?
So you would assume a right-turn red arrow would mean the same right?
Around here in most places, it's ok to turn right on red, as long as the traffic is clear and there's no pedestrians, etc.
I've only seen in two different places a right turn arrow, and both are off exits of highways.

So, once when I was waiting at one, because, you know, it was RED, some person behind me started honking like a maniac and drove around me to turn onto the road. Even though the arrow was red.
Then in the other location it's two lanes turning onto the road with red right-turn arrows, and I've seen people just pull onto the road ignoring the light. Yeah, they're new, but that doesn't mean you ignore them. When they redo roads and put the lines in a different spot you don't ignore the lines.

So, are these people wrong for not waiting at the light, or am I just misinformed about something? It's Florida, so I don't know if that will make any kind of difference or not

Generally, a red light means stop. and a red arrow means no turn on red. there are a bunch of places here in philly with such lights, and signs that say "no turn on red". some people ignore it, which usually threatens my life somehow since I rid emy bike beside the right turning lane (designated bike lane). I actually ran into a car and scartched up the right side of it pretty bad when they turned on a "no turn on red" intersection. he was nice enough to stop and ask if I was ok, but I was pissed off. I told him it's no turn on red for a reason, and that maybe he should be aware of that next time. he backed away and said "ok man... cool... just making sure you're ok" because if I wasn't, he would have been in BIG trouble.

But you're not wrong. I bet most of those people are regulars who drive that route constantly. so much so that they are on auto pilot and don't pay attention to signs that they assume will always be the same. so when something out of their usual route changes (say a person stopping on a turn when it was never a no turn on red before) they honk instead of looking around to see why the person isn't turning.

I had another instance (not trying to thread jack) where it was no turn on red so pedestrians could cross. as I am crossing this guy is turning into me. I proceed to stop in the road, point to the huge "no turns on red" sign, and he proceeds to flip me off. so I kicked his hood, called him a prick, and kept walking. he opened his car door and yelled at me, but unless he wanted to leave his car, in the middle of the city, running in the street, he wasn't about to follow me. plus he was... like 60, so he wasn't a threat, just a jackass.

Like Mottom said, red arrow = no turning!!! People must just assume that they can turn on red any old time. In my city there are only a few places where it says "NO TURN ON RED" and of course people just ignore it. No matter that they have those signs for a reason, like turning on red = you cutting through a lane of traffic that you can't see. That of course doesn't include the many times I've seen people turn on red... onto a one-way street where they're going the wrong way. I really think the driving test should be harder

You don't have any obligation to turn on red, even if it's allowed, if you have the slightest doubt of making it. Let 'em honk!

          .
Don't need driving tests. any 4-8 year old can drive as well as any adult so long as they can reach the pedals.

          We need common sense tests.

Around here in sou Cali, it's perfectly legal to turn right on a red light (even if that light is in the shape of an arrow) as long as there are no signs specifically prohibiting that action.

The red arrow operates in precisely the same as a non-arrow red light.

I would be a bit surprised if other areas didn't have similar regulations.

However, as stated, if you don't feel like turning while it's still red, there is absolutely no law forcing you to turn. It's a permission, not a requirement.

I love the people who drive giant cars/trucks/SUVs who will pull AROUND you while you're stopped waiting for the traffic to clear or the light to turn green.
you are = you're. not "your".

I know it's been said, but an arrow shaped red light for the right doesn't mean you can't go in a lot of places... in Utah they only serve to tell you when you DON'T have to stop when they are green, otherwise they are identical to any other light.
