I did a 2 month contract with Henze-Movats at the Ginnea nuke plant outside Rochester NY back in 1989. We rented an 'executive apartment' for IIRC $1000 a month, came with maid service - twice a week someone would come in and vacuum, dust and change the linens. Beat the hell out of the normal extended stay hotels as we had a full kitchen, and a full one bedroom apartment. As I originally came from Rochester, I had loads of friends, and we could actually have guests over without needing to use the bed as seating As I remember, it ended up something like $200 a month cheaper than a residence motel also.

And now I am picturing the poor person at the store that sold this guy his fridge.
      Funny you should mention it...

We offer to remove and recycle unwanted appliances as a part of our delivery service however we have started having to specifically highlight the part in the terms and conditions that says fridges and freezers must be empty and in reasonable condition for collection. Some people figure that when their freezer dies and it is full of food it is easier to duct tape it shut and let us remove it than to unload and dispose of the contents.

[ended up giving it to the store we bought the replacement from, he collected old vacuums and wanted it for parts as the shell was in perfect condition.]
I know a guy who makes a decent living refurbing old equipment like this... The fact they last forever aside from consumables means there's still a huge market for them.
