    I'm just thankful that the managers at the place where I work, and the supermarket across the road, all refuse to back down and give scammers what they want. Seriously, how thick do you have to be to find a misplaced item among the marked down stuff and think it applies to that as well? On that logic, I'm going to claim the Porsche parked outside my flat right now as mine, cuz it's in my parking space* so therefore, it's mine.

    * The parking space I don't use cuz I don't have a car. XD

      We have that in Canada too, the scanning code of practice. It's free up to a maximum of ten bucks, after that they just get ten bucks off the price.
      the canadian one at least has reasonable limits (only applies to UPC/plu items, for large chain retailers) and that it's voluntary. you don't have to do it for any willy nilly person, they have to be justified in their claim.

      in our store we've ha to get strict about it now. we will only use SCP if they ask (since it's voluntary) if the upc matches the label. too many issues with customers taking sticker for a cheap item and putting it over $20 stock. barcodes don't match? sorry then it's not the sticker for that item.
      we're more lenient on things like display caps, but is still has to be that item description. (you don't get shampoo for a toothpaste price, etc)

        This is from another site I'm on: All our Christmas is down to 90%. Customer brings up a cart full of boxes of Valentines Candy and insists that it should be 90% also because it was back in seasonal. Uh...Nope!
        Also, on this site an employee sees a set of dishes on a clearance end cap. They were not clearance. So he moves them back to the aisle they go in. Goes past again and they're back. Moves them back again. Finally, catches this woman putting them on the end cap. As she's walking away he just walks up picks them up (as she's watching him) and puts them back. Funny, they actually stayed in the aisle where they belonged after that.

          . However, some customers seem unable to either read or understand the barkers and think that all sweets, chocolate and biscuits are those prices.
          What is a barker?

          (For some reason I have this crazy image of a dog barking out prices... )

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barker lists several definitions. The one the poster means is "a promotional "special offer" price label in shops"

            While that would be cute, I doubt the Board of Health would feel the same way...

              It doesn't help in my store that these are printed with "FREE" or the sale price in a font that can be read across the store, and any requirements such that you have to be two inches away to see them properly. Maybe corporate thinks that the "SALE" wording will draw people closer so they will then read everything else?
