  • The stupidest "I want to see the manager!" I've ever encountered

Sorry for the lack of posts guys. I do have a lot of SC tales, but I'm just finding it difficult to get the time to sit down and type them! Here's a quick one.

I am working on the bar and it is quite boring. I am also tired. While I have no customers, I decide to go and make myself a coffee. I pour it out into a mug and I pull out three packets of sugar to stir in. A little old lady walks past the bar, and seems to be utterly fascinated by this.

SC: Three packets of sugar? Are you sure that's wise?!
Me: I know it seems a lot, but the sugar packets are really quite small. I don't even think there are two spoonfuls here.
SC: Don't you think that's a bit greedy? You should be saving those for the PAYING customers!
Me: It's OK. We've got tonnes of packets out the back.
SC: Well I think you're disgusting. I want to talk to someone about this.

I stared at her. I was trying to work out if she was being sarcastic or not.

    Me: Are you serious?
    SC: YES!

Oh well. My roommate was the manager of the day, and he hates petty complaints. I fear I've created a monster in him, because he treats SC's just as badly as I did when I was a manager. He went out and spoke to her.

SC: That sugar is for PAYING customers. He has not PAID!
R: The staff are allowed to have coffee on the house on shift. It's fine.
SC: He took THREE sugar packets! It's complete and utter greed!
R: What do you expect me to do?
SC: Make him pay! If I have to pay, so does he!
R: OK, I've got a feeling you're a really bored person who is looking to get someone in trouble, so I'm not having it. The staff are allowed free coffee, soft drinks and food. It's called employee discount.
SC: Well it shouldn't apply to condiments!

She went away. I also noticed that she ordered food and had helped herself to about 15 packets of salt. Seriously, if she had added all that salt to her food, she would have died.

I think your manager friend should've said something to her about using more than 3 packets is greedy, if she could bitch at you for it why not throw her words back in her face?

Should have jumped _her_ on being wasteful! Or better yet added an extra charge to her bill.

Seriously, get a life you old biddy!

You should have charged her one dollar for each packet of salt.

As a hotel manager, I'd have asked her why its any of her business.

R:He has paid for it. In exchange for the sugar, he has to deal with people like you. He definitely needs a raise.

Not to mention how fascinating it is that she has time like this to spare. No wonder she's by herself.

Exactly. It is not enough to compensate for him doing so, but it is the least we can do...

SC has way too much time on their hands.

Oh my goodness, one of the minions is having COFFEE while on the clock! Mustn't have that, now. Why, next thing you know, they'll expect to be PAID for the privilege of serving their betters! [/sarcasm]

Yeah, lady, get a life and get a clue. Nobody's impressed with your bitchery.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

Wow. She definitely wanted to complain for the sake of it. She called you disgusting... well so is her behaviour.

I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

Is the term "disgusting" a general British slang thing? Seems like a lot of CRML's sucktomers use it.

A mountain of sugar is too much for one man. It's clear now why God portions it out in those tiny packets, and why he lives on a plantation in Hawaii.
To right the countless wrongs of our days... We shine this light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise...Oh, what a wonderful world such would be...

"If I have to pay, so does he"? Really? Okay, lady, here's a rag and a tray. Go clear those six tables off, scrub them down, clean up the food the kids dropped on the floor, and when the lunch rush comes in, you start taking orders and bringing food out in that section over there. At closing tonight we'll see how much coffee you've earned.

And then he hands you a handful of sugar packets.
