I'd vote that because almost everyone has an opportunity to ruin Christmas, but only a few of us get the opportunity to violate someone's constitution rights that the latter should rank 1st because it takes the few, the downtrodden, the ones who have survived the front lines and are alive to speak of it to be able to accomplish such a task.

That's impressive. Does violating constitutional rights rank above or below ruining Christmas? I happens less often I think.
We need to take a vote on this!

I've just removed yet another reference to Sovereign Citizens. Has anyone read protege's MOD WARNING to keep off of Fratching topics? Next person who does it gets an infraction.
Glad I saw this ... I was about to make a comment re that very thing ...

We recently got some new software that would allow us to ONCE enter somebody with a valid tax exemption document into the system. It was rather complicated, but supposedly once they were in the system, it would automatically recognize them next time they made a purchase.

Of course, now our store's closing, so the entire thing is a moot point ...

On the flip side, if you DID get more, you'd have it on automatic in your brain, and you'd be good to go. There are a few things we can do at my work that we do rarely, so anytime one of them crops up, it's a good solid 10 minutes of confusion, augmented by a roll out of updated software that has changed how to do it from last time... No joy!

Hello from your competitor across the street (probably)! Anyway, I had one lady insist that she was "in our system" but we're not set up like that so just get me the proper documentation and we can both get on with our day.

Anytime I get a tax-free shopper there's a good 10 seconds of staring at them, staring at the paper and staring at the register to figure out how to do it. I'm glad we don't get many.

My pizza place gets this occasionally. in my area we have a Native American Reservation and natives can have paperwork to make them tax exempt while patronizing any (maybe) businesses on the Res.

Notice I said "can have paperwork" YES they need to have paperwork for the tax exemption.

We have one person (a supervisor out at the casino) who thinks just because he IS on the RES and we (my pizza place is not) that he is entitled to tax exemption thing. Franchise legal says NO but guy still insists YES

Much stupidity ensues sometimes when I deliver to him at the casino. Rants and threats to NOT order etc.

    because THEY PERSONALLY BELIEVE
...that they shouldn't have to. They don't want to do something, so they come up with some nonsense to get out of it. It's the same people who freak out when they have to wait in line, because deep down they never matured past the age of about four, when throwing a tantrum was a viable option.

    Police

I always find it interesting that when someone claims what you are doing is illegal suddenly can not stick around if you offer to call the police.

I once had a neighbor who despite having discoverable and verifiable income "found a tax loophole" that meant that he didn't have to pay income taxes.

He actually bragged about it because nothing had happened to him and we were idiots to keep filing.

I'm not privy to the private details but I do know that 8 years after he stopped filing, he suddenly left and his home went up for sale.

Moral of this story? Don't f**k around with the IRS.

He was one of those nutcases that insists they don't have to pay sales tax because THEY PERSONALLY BELIEVE it is unconstitutional.

Sorry, folks, it doesn't work that way. I highly doubt any other store accepted that nonsense from him either. Scammers, the lot of them.

Have to admit, I saw the first three words of the thread title and just rushed right over ...

We've had people with legit tax-exemption documents in our store; we don't really have a process in place so we simply give them the same discount we give to mall workers (10%). Never heard of anybody complaining.

I always want to ask these constitutional lawyers to show me their law school diploma ...

Guys, can we keep the thread Fratching-free? Thanks!

Anyway, someone screamed about how paying taxes was against their "constitutional rights?" That's a new one on me. But it doesn't surprise me--people will use all sorts of "logic" when they think they're being overcharged. For example, several years back, my county's sales tax went from 6% to 7%. We're talking a freaking penny here, folks. Didn't stop people from screaming about it in stores, newspapers, and if the 'net would have been around back then...there too. Even more fun, are the people that claim that they shouldn't have to pay my county's sales tax...because they "don't live here"

Moreover, exemption from sales tax is a privilege.
