  • Well on his way to suckyness (long)

Not there yet, tyhough. Earlier today I served a young boy, who'd asked earlier for directions to our kendal mint cake (for people who don't know, it is basically brown sugar and int oil in a big bar) He brought it up to the till, there's a big queue (middel till still broken) and I scan it through as 75p.
'Oh, but I only have 62p'
I tell him there's not much I can do, I can't override a price unless there's an error somewhere, but I'll go check if theres an error. I feel bad for him, as I remember being a kid and not having enough money. There's no error, the price is clearly marked on the shelf, so I go back, apologise and say there's nothing I can do.

At which point he starts to guilt trip me and whine at me. I have a massive queue building up, and am really stressed and really CANNOT override the price- even if it's only for 13p, I'm not allowed to if theres no error. I might have been able to let it go if he'd been ip short, as someone alway leaves apenny change on occaision and the tills balance.

I wonder who told him whinign and guilt-tripping staff would get him want he wanted? He was otherwise a sweet boy, but I don't appreciate being guilt-tripped into giving someone a iscount. If I did it for him, I;d have to do it for everyone.

      Oh, I wouldn't say he's on his way...I think he's made it!

Nah. Almost, but "made it" would require throwing a screaming fit in the store about how it's only 13p or something like that. Or complaining about being "inconvenienced" because he had to go "all the way to the till" to ask where it was, then go "all the way to where it was," then go "all the way back to the till," only to find out he couldn't buy it. Then he would demand free stuff and/or a gift card, and follow it up with "I'm never shopping here again."

Maybe he was hoping someone would give him the change he needed.
