Hmm... so if there's an eclipse, maybe the collective population of Nunavut will all go out to watch and subsequently go blind.
Now if only we could find some triffids...

Lies! I saw a eclipse back in third grade that would make it roughly 96-98ish maybe its the other type?
Maybe he meant total eclipse? It has been awhile since NA saw a total eclipse.

I think maybe you're right Geek King. I remember an Eclipse too in elementary (I was born in 81), but we weren't allowed to watch it.

Ah yes. I will quote my stargazing magazone:

The first TOTAL solar eclipse in North America since 1979...

There we go. now we know

You know what's REALLY weird? For about 1000 less dollars I can fly to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut (MUCH farther north and the location given in the magazine), instead of Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut.

I also can take a direct flight to Cambridge Bay, but not to Iqaluit. Go figure.

There was a partial solar eclipse visible in New England around '92 or '93 and another one not too long after. However, I believe this one will be the first full solar eclipse visible in North America since 1979.

I would go if I could take the time off and get over my fear of the stupi... er, Nunavutians.

Hmm... GK, maybe you should go. You could probably convince them you're a god by causing your 'great skybeast' to swallow the sun. If they promise to worship you and pay you tribute by NEVER ordering pants, hats, and pink camo clothing ever again then you can 'return' the sun to them. Just food for thought.

<sob> in 3 days I have to go back and they'll be waiting.
They're from Nunavut. THEY HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO.

            Seriously.

I've just checked the Wikipedia entry, and my local town outnumbers them. We could invade!

Has anyone any idea why there is such a disproportionate number of strange calls from there?

I'm willing to bet because the company in question is the only one that would actually ship out there and allow them to do it by COD.

Even though it costs $40. ;p

This is the largest of the places we ship to up there. The largest. Keep that in mind.

Be sure to swap to satellite view and then zoom out to get an idea of how desolate it is.

Another member of the board referred to Nunavut as a "gene puddle." I love that phrase, but I don't feel like searching for the the originator. So, thank you, whoever you are, kind poster. I use the term regularly now. Someday, I will take the time to look up the original post and give credit where it is due.

I was wondering if he meant a lunar eclipse. BTW, the last total solar eclipse - 29 March 2006. Well, here, take a look at this: http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/eclipse.html
